Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

The best are leaving because of nepotism

I used to work in a small family run business and it is sad that there is more nepotism here at Enbridge than there. Nepotism is slowly destroying this company, because why would someone with talent and skills accept to be discriminated against!?
Is the leadership aware that precisely because of nepotism, this company will be left without the best people?

Trust people to seize on the wrong point. It has to be willful otherwise it's sad.

The point being made is that the lawyers as a group don't fit neatly into the stereotype described. "Don't ask me how I know" aside.

Which part of, "That's all" didn't any of you understand?

I recognize it's a limited subset. Although I do know them well enough to take multiple ski trips to Banff/Jasper with them.

I'm willing to bet that 4 is a better sample size than most here.

I know four lawyers at ENB. That's all. None of them fit your description.

"Don't ask me how I know."

That's okay. I suspect I already know.

Speaking of nepotism, don't be worried about what any lawyer at Enbridge says. More than likely they are the son or daughter of someone with influence and were hired only because their last name. They outsource everything and sit back collecting their paycheque and allowance from Dad while surfing Amazon or watching TSN highlights.

Don't ask me how I know.

There is a saying about being born on third base and acting like you hit a triple :)

"I immediately went to Glassdoor/Indeed and thelayoff to speak the truth about the process and paltry severance amount... and also the transgressions within the company. It was all accurate. Come after me LOL."

Why would I come after you? Regardless, the company almost certainly won't come after you either. You chose to broke the terms of your contract, but it's not worth it for them to engage on it.

At any rate, I know MANY people who were packaged out. I've never heard any of them refer to their dollar values as "paltry". Uniformly they were above industry averages. Enbridge has been generous on the terms across the board, simply to avoid being in court. They are risk averse.

Report the bully but do so at your own peril. There is no winning here.

Haha. Not disparage the company online or reveal details of said severance. I signed my that paperwork that contained a confidentiality section. Once I received my $, I immediately went to Glassdoor/Indeed and thelayoff to speak the truth about the process and paltry severance amount... and also the transgressions within the company. It was all accurate. Come after me LOL.

Thank you for sharing. I don't doubt you were packaged out. What you signed wasn't exactly an NDA. It was an agreement to not disparage the company or disclose the terms in your offer. That's boilerplate on all packages regardless of circumstances.

What I said wasn't that bullying never happened. I said it wasn't pervasive.

“ What was offered was a statement without any backing of any kind. At least my example is based on something tangible.”

Hi. I was a victim of bullying and racist abuse. It took me two years to muster the courage to speak to HR. A few months later, my bully got PROMOTED to another team, and I was slapped with an NDA and given a package to leave .

What more do you need to see ? Want me to show my receipts for the therapist I’m seeing ?

"Talk about anecdotal evidence. Simply denying or dismissing there is a problem, other than legitimately addressing it.. means YOU ARE A PART OF THE PROBLEM!"

Talk about defining your way to your own conclusion.

What was offered was a statement without any backing of any kind. At least my example is based on something tangible. And as a manager who networks a great deal with other managers, I can say that I have not observed bullying or anything like it to be pervasive.

That's FAR more concrete than the mild unspecified innuendo that preceded it.

Go read the Pembina layoff page. I (for a very short time) was actually happy to work here. Shocking how mis-managed they are and how terrible they treat their people.

The other side of the coin is that there is a constant influx of stories of racism, nepotism and bullying at ENB. Sh-t there's even news articles about it. ENB itself bullies first nations communities.

Are these all made up? Or maybe this is an issue? Even if it WASNT an issue.. trying to do everything you can to reach a more fair and equitable workplace is always the right choice.

Don’t disagree this happens in many organizations but few actively reward people like this. Personally worked with someone who was a bully and a brown noser who looks down on people of colour. She has been tagged for management.

I guess you could argue the other side of that coin. Can you demonstrate that all people leaders in this company are white men brown nosing their way through life bullying people all the while…especially the non white people?

You’ll find people all of walks of life in all organizations this one isn’t any different.

"Demonstrably false"

'I'm not a racist bully so therefore all managers and executives in this 10k+ employee company aren't either, mnaahhhh'

Talk about anecdotal evidence. Simply denying or dismissing there is a problem, other than legitimately addressing it.. means YOU ARE A PART OF THE PROBLEM!

How can people be so short sighted and ignorant?

"Must be white"
"Must bully when one can get away with it."

Demonstrably false. I've promoted 17 people in my career. 6 were white-ish. 8 were male. None were bullies or maliciously opportunistic .

And while the board is definitely heavy on white males, it's not an exclusive club. And the farther down you go the more diverse things get. Look at an org chart once in a while.

Promotion at Enbridge is decided by the following :

Must be brown noser
Must be white
Must actively throw people under the bus.
Must bully when one can get away with it.
Organize United Way BBQ
Pretend to care about inclusion while simultaneously insult and undermine minorities.
You have your next manager in line! Congratulations!

They are called "Free riders". While their colleagues are doing their jobs, free riders are playing chess to advance their own careers. They are also conveniently nearby to take credit for team achievements and milestones.

Ever notice how these types with the 'loudest voices in the room' are usually people who lack talent and/or are totally incompetent, but know how to play politics, climb the ladder, and leave a trail of bodies behind them? Everyone has worked with these people and seem them sink teams and companies. If you can't act like a psychopath in the office and have a conscience, be part of the lucky sp--m club!

The problem is, some people who are talented and skilled are often very bad at their own marketing. Being quietly competent and hoping take people notice isn't a strategy for advancement.
