I've been sending out applications for the past six months and every time I ask about the pay range it's significantly lower than what I get currently. I'd love to leave but getting a 30 or even 40 percent cut in pay to do so is simply not feasible for me. If this is the situation when the job market is as good as it gets, I worry I might never be able to leave Truist.

I don’t think the Walmart example from the WSJ article had anything to do with working for Walmart per se, but rather had to do with the OP implying he/she wasn’t seeing good paying opportunities.
Walmart has by reputation been one of the lower paying companies, and when they start paying store managers $200k it is a good sign that companies are paying up. So, if you haven’t seen good opportunities for six months, it might be time to tweak your strategy. Good luck!!
My heart goes out to anyone who manages a wal mart that has to be 24/7 insanity
If you are having trouble finding opportunities with decent pay in this environment, I echo what someone said earlier, you are probably casting your net a bit too narrow. If you are relatively solid, companies are paying top dollar right now…if you don’t believe me, look at yesterday’s Wall Street Journal and take a gander at what even Walmart is paying store managers now. HOLY COW!!!
Good luck and expand your search if you need to…I am living proof there is a ton of stuff out there much, MUCH better than the hilariously bad “1980’s Executives vs lowly employee” culture at Truist.
The many people claiming to leave and make significantly more money are the exception or had an incredibly low salary to begin with. This “hot job market” appears to be only hot if you’re willing to relocate. I’ve searched high and low and have found no job that’s been comparable in salary, benefits and bonus. Also good luck trying to get one of those jobs posted. Just like at SunTruist they already have who they want and the posting and BS interviews are HR driven for optics. Color me skeptical!
So sorry to hear this, have you tried expanding your search? If you are only mainframe your options are limited, banks and insurance. Sorry to say! But you can still get out!
