The manager told me this Monday that I would be receiving a pay cut. It shocked me quite a bit, especially given the fact that I’m the best performer in my team. As far as I know the other team members didn’t receive any reduction in pay. Obviously I’m pi---d and feel betrayed in a sense.
So, with that in mind I decided I want to leave the company and seek my fortunes elsewhere.
The only dilemma that I have is weather I should leave right away or change my strategy and wait for them to fire me. What is a better option at this point. In any case I’m hitting the job market first thing Monday.

When does the pay cut take affect? Do you have PTO that will be paid out, or just lost? How many years have you been with the company? There are lots of things to consider.
If you haven't been at the company long, run. Any possible severance paid may be made up elsewhere with better pay.
If you are a 'lifer', like me, then you want them to let you go, and get the max severance. Less pay means less work out of me, then please let me go.
I worked in Management at Fiserv for 15 years, not once did I hear of someone having to take a pay cut. I saw a few SVP's back in the day move to Project Manager type roles and keep their SVP salary for a couple of years until they were just RIF'ed out. We don't have the full story here.
"Go talk to your executive" What universe are you living in where this is even possible? Must be the same universe where the "Bow Nuss" thing is at.
Nonsense - never heard of a pay cut in the circumstance you mention. Go talk to your executive…something doesn’t sound right.
Focus on finding a new job, and take the RIF package if they want to let you go.
End of quarter reductions? We are removing fractional employees now?
The job market if very hot. The very reason you are the highest performer is why they probably cut your pay. You are also the highest salary on staff and they need to whittle you down.
Last year, I was told my performance was better than ever, but my bonus was cut 20%. I resigned several months later.
Maybe it was the "essential workers" that were given a temporary raise, and now it is taken away.
Yeah, if this really happened, selectively, and just to you... I'd be asking for some clarifications around it, myself. And 100% absolutely drive your own destiny! I'd brush up the resume to get it current, and get the lowest rung LinkedIn premium subscription til you find a job. Enable the bit where they let recruiters know you're open, while specifically excluding your current company, and start applying. Good luck!
I work in HR and have only rarely ever seen a reduction in salary, mostly of someone themselves wanted to take a lesser role - you can reach out to your HR person or the compensation department.
Always easier to find a job when you have a job. Employers would want to know why you left during an interview, so don't make it look like you have hard feelings towards your current employer.
A reduction in salary would be a pretty unprecedented move. Maybe ask the manager to explain this in a bit more detail
I absolutely agree with @otz+1g25xtZM. Make your own decisions. I can understand this being an incredibly hard decision if you're looking a potentially large severance payout, but it's almost always better if you do the steering. Plus, that severance may never come, especially if they can get you to do the same work for a lower cost. If you're willing to hang around after that, they'll probably keep you.
Im always in favor of taking control of your own destiny. Use the time you have a job to find a better one.
