Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

First 60 days at job after Oracle...

I just wanted to post about my first two months at my new job...and compare what life was like at Oracle.

Old vs New...

Oracle: Low pay, no bonuses, slob manager promoting me and saying no money cause VP gives all the money to her buddies vs

New Co: Started off 25% higher than my Oracle role, eligible for bonuses. Manager paid me a bonus and I am not even in the role at the moment and still in training.

Oracle: Literally no training. Zero. Only compliance cr-p they did every year. When I did take courses directly related to my job, my old consulting manager gave me cr-p getting them approved. Our pathetic project mgmt web version used Java. He rejected paying for my beginner Java course. Great man. Oracle had zero interest in pushing people to get certs.

New Co: First 60 days ALL training. 105 modules off a great platform that has interactive questions, videos, industry knowledge. Push for industry wide certs. Pride in being a REAL industry pro.

Oracle: The culture was sad and depressing. I worked with a few "senior" people who were so mature they would have a private convo with me and if they didn't like what they heard, would run and tell their boss. Such professionalism. Absolutely terrible bonds, no culture, no swag, no happiness, no excitement. Pathetic quarterly effort. Corny stuff like "level up". As if mgmt suggesting they are already leveled up would make me do anything.

New Co: It's a TEAM. We are a TEAM. We are in this together to drive goals for us and the customer. We are publicly traded and people are still pushing excitement with let's do better, let's build better (not political), let's do all we can....so what? SO WE CAN ALL GET RICH. Actual words. In two months I have had funnier moments with my team and even outsiders than I did in almost 20 years at Orahole. It's completely easy to see why as well. At Oracle, the victors get the spoils. At new co, I got a shirt, speaker, RFID pad, 110.00 swag credit. Oracle didn't so much as give me TP.

Oracle: Advancement based on who likes you, who didnt have beef with you, who didn't get their stapler stolen by you. My manager from last summer actually rejected someone for a job on his team 4 TIMES cause he didn't like him. Then he actually hired him a few months back. Why you ask? Cause everyone left him!!! hhahhaa. It's so pathetic. Manage with fear. Manage with workload. Manage with, well just do it. My last two managers. Actually 90% of them were absolutely never going to do anything they're doing at Oracle at another company. Resumes to line birdcages. Hope they read it. One guy got so pathetic he started stealing his team's work and got his daughter hired...by who? someone he hired.

New Co: You have to either come in with a ton of certs/ext/cred or build it up. You proudly display your achievements on things like LinkedIn. You don't threaten people. you talk about OUR goals. My manager wants us all on earnings calls to really see..."hey, we're either doing great or not, but I want you to know". Nobody is stealing my work here. Very professional. Very collaborative. Guy who is now mentoring me, 25 years in industry, Big4 experience, says, "I have to change old ways. Heck, I know that some things can't just stay the same...and I want to share that with you." Imagine someone at Oracle, meeting a person of all of 2 months, and opening up about that...and personal battles with health? Imagine that?

Oracle: The new shiny toy gets the dog all hot and bothered. My old VP of our unit. Wow. She would get all hot and bothered at another acquisition. Every year....X is gonna be the industry standard....Same thing every year. Every year it never happened and this woman just keeps replacing one with another and another. She is a complete failure and a thief. Diverting eyes from her failures to "well we went another direction with that product" After everyone is gone and the product no longer being supported.

New Co: Admits migration to cloud, admits tools change, admits shortfalls, admits product roadmap, admits truth. We can't know it all...We ALWAYS have to keep learning.

I wrote this after hearing a director of over 25 years was asked about jobs within the department. Their answer to the person looking to grow..."You might want to check out the (fill in newest product Oracle purchased here) team for openings...."

I am not sorry Oracle....but you ARE THE BIGGEST LOSER.

Great post. Orahole is a shithole. Get out of the company and find a good place to work. They are out there.

About a year from my post…the grass isn’t always greener.

The company I went to after oracle…managers were 10x worse than oracle. Not only were they totally unprofessional, they were unaware of industry best practices. The new hires were a mixed bag. The interview and the actual job were completely different. I saw more attrition in 14 mos at new company than I did oracle. The new company woo’d you with swag and saying they were diverse and inclusive; they were neither. In the year or so I was there I experienced racism/s-xism/discrimination and that was from my direct manager. The leadership was amongst the worst I had ever seen. There was no room for growth. You were hired for one job and that’s all you were gonna do. The place ravaged people’s mental health. It was also sued by shareholders and they won….30 million dollars. Oracle, now that I’ve been another company, don’t look that bad. On the flip side, I know oracle had a ton of layoffs but can’t speak to that.
