Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Is this true?

Pharmacy is still in trouble. They are going to be cutting operating hours back again soon.

Someone wrote this in one of the threads below. I hope this rumor about cutting operating hours is not true. Any insights?

Timmy. I’m no longer with Walmart and know all about that layoff period. DM me if you’re trying to get info.

The undesirables they mentioned were mostly over 55, and had the maximum vacation. Didnt want to pay the health and vacation cost. If they were so bad they would have terminated them and saved the severance money.

I'm not sure that a post a day when following a thread constitutes "constantly checking this site", but everybody is entitled to an opinion. I find it interesting that you single me out in your response when I simply asked the poster a few questions to establish his credibility regarding some fairly outlandish claims offered in a rather hostile manner. After all, if the large number of pharmacy personnel released was hand-picked, as he claimed, then this would be a huge revelation as it directly contradicts any statements made by management on the subject thus far.

I actually suspect you and he are the same person. But at any rate, he certainly has no intention of offering any evidence that his posts are anything but the rantings of an internet troll.

If I had to guess…. Maybe they have other things to do than be a keyboard warrior and constantly checking this site….

If you believe you have a legit case, go take it up with Walmart and fight it legally. Regardless, I hope one day you become a happy person Timmy. Seems like a lot of anger built up behind that monitor

Oh, and for the record please, so you're emphatically stating that all of the associates released in the company's massive layoff of pharmacy personnel in the summer of 2019 were hand picked due to specific performance issues?

You ignored my basic questions. I'll give you new ones.

  1. You say "we". Who is "we"?
  1. What level of management do you represent?
  1. You act like you know who I am, so prove it. What was my last day with the company? Be specific.

OTC and HBA are two different departments.

Ah ha, yes we were waiting for you to chime in since you’re still licking your wounds.

Let’s just set the record straight about what happened a few years back. In plain English: yes, Walmart did resource actions to reduce low performing, undesirable and untrustworthy associates. They were all covered by the severance plan and received those benefits. That’s the end of the story there. You can say what you want, but that’s the clear truth. And Walmart had every right to do that. No company wants to continue to employ low performing and undesirable employees.

Of course, no business plan can precisely anticipate every potential surge or drop in work force. A plan is derived and then tracked. Adjustments are made and then tracked. So, saying there’s a guarantee that no resource actions will happen would be an out-and-out lie. No one knows what’s going to happen. There’s legislation in flight that will potentially open up numerous opportunities at pharmacy and that will add staff. Even though wholesale reductions are not currently planned, no one can see the future. That’s not rocket science.

As previously stated, the actual pharmacy footprint at most stores is a limiting factor to new growth, so that is a considerable concern to growth and expansion. How does remodel/construction take place with limited space already a problem, and with controlled meds on site. And how does that happen without interrupting current service levels and operating hours. One potential solution is curbside delivery and it is being careful considered. There are challenges but progress is being made.

All in all, the pharmacy business is going to expand enormously. That is a known fact. There will be more opportunities, that is a known fact. This part of the business is not getting smaller and the need for associates is most certainly going to increase.

Pharmacy not HBA. Pharmacy(prescriptions) wasn’t creating profits prior to COVID.

First of all, Pharmacy (and for that matter, all of HBA) is not in trouble. Who ever said that is simply uninformed or has some kind of personal agenda or axe to grind.

Staffing was increased in support of COVID simply because of the foot traffic and demand - just like OGP has been increased. If and when foot traffic and demand in Pharmacy and/or HBA declines, staffing might as well. However, with the baby boomers retiring early in droves, and Walmart’s desire to add more pharmacy and eventually medical services (such as nurse on duty), the business plan calls for more associates, not less.

The limiting factor right now is that the pharmacy foot print is way to small for the services being planned. By 4Q22, we’ll start to see store modifications to accommodate a much larger pharmacy and nurse/treatment rooms, as well as a telemedicine room with connectivity to doctors.

So, in summary, there’s big plans for pharmacy and HBA. There’s going to be opportunities for CNAs, as well.

This forum is full of loud mouths and trolls. If you research it you can see most of it is just complaining.

Probably true. Now that Covid shots and flu shots are slowing down they'll be wanting to dump all the people that they just hired to take care of that need. It's typical Walmart corporate behavior.
