Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Let's rub salt in the wound, shall we?

Let's look at the financial report today to see how much money the company, the shareholders, and the management made in the last three months. Then let's figure out what percentage of that comes from underpaying those of us who do the actual work, wage theft, and cuts in benefits. Just for the fun of it.

So just to be clear: the stock purchase plan allows you to buy stock at a 15% discount. You chip in 85% of the price of a share of stock (or fraction thereof) on payday, the company pitches in 15%, and then you own a share. Check the guideline on the max you can contribute each pay period. But the bottom line is that you typically make a 15% profit on company stock. You can research this yourself but right now, a 15% return on any investment is phenomenal. You literally walk away from free money if you don’t buy company stock.

With the 401k, you contribute a fixed % of your gross pay each paycheck. The company will match your contribution dollar for dollar up to 6% of your pay and then that total amount is invested in a fund or investment you can select. If you contribute more than 6%, that’s really great but the company only matches the first 6%. Again, this is free money. If you don’t take advantage of this, you are walking away from free money.

Of course, in order to maximize your profits, you need to read up on the stock plan and the 401k so you know how the plan and the process works. You need to learn how to view your stock and 401k accounts, how to sell, trade and transfer. You need some kind of investment goal or strategy.

But the bottom line is this: the company offers ways for each and every associate to save, invest and make money. You just have to learn how to make it work for you.

The obvious solution is to become a shareholder the company will match the stock you buy up to a certain percentage of your check i think 6%. So its free stock that makes money. Quit whining and invest in a solution.
