Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Impacts of poor morale

I witness smaller or bigger workplace conflicts on regular basis, my performance is worse than usual, my motivation is very low, many people are still leaving, etc.
Considering that morale at XOM is horrible now and that as such is leading to diminished profits, I wonder if management will finally identify and address these issues before the situation escalates?

The oil business is cyclical so quit expecting lifetime gravy trains, when times are tough the trapdoors stay open. Difference now is the doors have been opened to let in TCN's so when times get better, a lot of the chairs have been filled. That's the deal...

Remember the garbage you’ve posted when they PIP you.
Or maybe you’re immune to the PIP thanks to your sponsor; in that case the garbage is not just what you post here.

@OP They won’t.

After a few trips around the block in O&G it became clear that every company had some level of toxicity. I attributed this to repeating cycles of layoffs. I used the experience I got in O&G to pad my CV, took some courses, and got out while the getting was good.

If you’re going to stay at EM hoping it will change you’ll just make yourself more miserable with each passing day. Move on.

The collective “we” have asked this every step of the way for going on 2 years now (401k , PIP x2, layoffs, hiring). It’s clear the leadership that is left is at best completely apathetic or more commonly the epitome of the worst parts of the company and still actively trying to climb the ladder off the backs of their peers or subordinates. When questions about accountability for any of these even in large forums is answered with excuses around lack of control and being at the mercy of “the process” it is clear there is zero intention to change.

I thought by this point all XOM US employees remaining would be passive masochists.
Boot to the face over and over enjoyment and all that.
Surprised there are still some people holding "morale" in such high regard.
Love of money and taste of the boot, I guess.

I get low morale facing this daily sh-t show but them I remember that I am paid well and live a nice lifestyle.

Just think of the people in third world countries that work hard labor to earn $2 a day with no route out of that life.

Suck it up and be thankful you have the sh-t show to deal with at this pay level and are not shoveling sh-t.

We no longer control the price of crude, gasoline, diesel, and our chemical products are commodities. All we can control is our operating expenses (OPEX). Headcount is the #1 OPEX in any corporation.

Morale always correlates with pay raises especially if the pay raise is consistently greater than the annual inflation rate.

Low morale will continue in our European and US locations until the high cost work functions in the EU and US are offshored to lower cost countries such as India, Malaysia, Argentina, and Hungary.

This is the situation management is wanting! That's the only reason nothing is being done.

Poor morale = lots of people leaving = hire lower cost employees, primarily in another country

There will always be someone else in a lower cost of living area hungry and grateful to have your “Low morale job”.

I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
