Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

What’s up next for Indirect Account Managers?

Indirect account managers are just kind of waiting for some change to come. Is the company just trying to figure out what to do with us? One team is not working. Should we expect layoffs, a restructure, or should we just accept life as it is now and expect things to be this way for a while?

Maybe the position becomes safer if the company wants to rely even heavier on agents and not corporate doors. Even then maybe they don’t need account managers. Really hard to tell right now with the level of communication and how disconnected from the rest of the team indirect feels right now

If you wait for your severance, it’s a gamble. I was an IAM who was laid off a year ago. I was an IAM for about 6 years and I saw layoffs every single year. The severance was great when I was let go and the job market was and still is booming. It might not be the same if you stick it out until they dissolve the job. A coworker of mine who was also laid off went to work for a n agent as an account manager and he said it’s basically the same position as an IAM. Agents have their own account managers now so there really is no sense for Verizon to keep the position. It’s a tough decision to decide if you should quit now or wait but I will tell you this, the grass IS greener. It was a shock when I was let go but I landed a job staring at virtually the same pay I was making as an IAM. The job market is great right now!

Milk it. Once you get canned not really sure what job you can get. Cheerleader maybe?

That’s the tough part, do we bounce or do we wait for a severance package and then bounce?

The writing has been on the wall for awhile now. Indirect has layoffs practically every year. It’s a job that hasn’t been effective for the past 6 years. Agents do what they want and the employees listen to their manager NOT an IAM. Brush up your resume and get out before the hammer comes down again.

I think the ops move makes sense account managers don’t have an impact on what the agents do it’s just VSL forms and merchandising one team is awkward

A move to the ops organization actually makes a lot of sense. One team is a joke, doesn’t work.

I agree, it is like another ops person. We don’t get paid on performance or metrics. There has to be a restructure coming soon. Just wish they would hurry up and decide so we could move on

Indirect is just another ops person really. Here to fill out pca forms and make sure indirect reps do their training.

I think the post was referring to the IAM making 100k per year? I do think this job has outlive the need. This is not 2010-2015. Agents will soon have 90pct access of what core stores have. ATT have already outsourced this role. Tmo has it still but it seriously like a merchandiser role. Curious to see what value IAM brings to VZ anymore

@kfv+1fUm6zuc if you believe they make more money than you, then you probably joking!

Indirect does not make money but it's a lot easier for them to get hired and most of the time they don't have a DK manager working with them and bugging them all day long.

Visit an indirect store and watch most of them are alone and no manager around.

Most of my friends feel so happy once 6pm and the DK SM or GM goes home and we are lone for the rest of the night. If a customer gets nasty guess whos the manager? ME, Sir you don't like it get out and if you want to cancel please call tomorrow to *611 good luck verizon doesn't care about you, only about new customers.

let me give an answer for FREE

OUTSOURCING!

That's going to be the way out of many positions within VZ.

Look at our Customer Service, many of them are from India, Philippines, and with Tracphone now in the portfolio more ideas on how to outsource to save money and bigger bonuses for Hanz. He is probably getting another $21M this year.

You are no longer an asset, anyone who feels they are an asset to be Verizon is a fool.

They try to bring indirect into our monthly Corp calls and Rally's. It's pretty damn funny because the director leading the call is always raving and celebrating indirects crushing their numbers and destroying corp retail. They can't even realize the simplest thing. Indirect is on individual commission, they have incentives to sell stuff that isn't just fear tactics from management and leadership. Let's be real though, I'm sure most directors know this is a joke but that sit at home, make a couple visits, jump on a call here and there 100k+ a year isnt going to get many complaints
