It’s not just Wells Fargo wanting to make us miserable so we quit and don’t collect severance (though I do believe that’s part of it) and it’s not just about real estate investments. It is happening across industries and it is about control but it’s more than just fulfilling the egomaniacal needs of our corporate overlords. They want us exhausted and burnt out because it turns out that in the long run it’s a great retention method. If you’re to exhausted to pursue something else you’ll stay in your cage and continue to obediently plod away in your hamster wheel.
“Why then the push for a return to the status quo ugly? Simple: Big companies don't want workers to have the choice to work anywhere. They want employees to be captive to their jobs and too burned out to look for work elsewhere.
Here's the thing: People who can work anywhere have power over their lives. They can decide when they work and how, and for whom. They can hold out for more money and force multiple employers to bid for their services, and quit when they're mistreated or underpaid.”
