Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Lack of investment in GBU

I work in a GBU and have noticied over the years a general lack of investment in the business. Even worse than from what I started.

Lack of product investment & updates, lack of investment in internal tools (CRM system is awful), marketing funding pulled, travel ban continued despite other companies opening up.

I thought I read somewhere that once a team/unit or area of business is marked by management as an underperformer it has its investment pulled. Is that a thing?

One other interesting thing I've seen is that when someone leaves which has been often, they are often replaced by pulling someone from another team instead of hiring from the outside. I interpret this as management has pulled funding?

I hope the folks in F1 racing know that!

Curious if the same is going on in other departments?

Of course it is. If it took $1 million to do something properly, Oracle would try to do it for $500,000, possibly $250K at this juncture. They always try to cheap out. Oracle would put mechanical drum brakes on a Million dollar McLaren.

my elementary take on their strategy is just to buy companies and milk the cashflow until they make their investment back and cost cut where ever they can while locking customers into support contracts to hold them as long as possible.

You are not far off. I don't even think they consciously do it, but Just can't help themselves. Think of "O" as the planet eater in the original Star Trek series.

The guy who runs all the GBU’s ran mine for like 15 years. Mike Sicilia. He’s a POS human in every sense of the word. No personality. No empathy. No understanding. No care. He didn’t give a cr-p about any employees in the cegbu and now that model has gone down to all the GBU leaders. I left the cegbu and my God, it’s funny to see how pathetic and just flat out pathetic him and all his cronies are. They’re like the dinosaurs in tech. It doesn’t matter what age cause his persona resonates with others and my God…they would be blasted at places like Google and Apple. Just try to scare people into thinking and acting like them. Perfect Larry and Safra drones. Get out of the GBU. Heck. Get out of oracle. Their tech are long passed and many companies beating them 100% in respective spaces. CEGBU needs to be dissolved.

They pull them from another team because they're underpaying their people and if they hire somebody off the streets then they have to pay market price. Nobody gets any pay bump with a lateral transfer. It's an insidious way to perpetuate the age and gender pay gaps.
