Pretty amazing when you consider that Sun went from a company, to a division of another company to a department of same company.

Apparently Hardware grew 96% in Q3, and had its largest Q3 in 6 years!

Pulling their weight!

The sharp decline in HW revenues since 2015 are creating a time bo-b for the HW group. Pretty soon OCI + Exa alone won’t be able to sustain all the in-house development/validation teams. Open your eyes ! The transition to white box is inevitable. AA is loyal to Sun but will soon be forced to reckon with the lower cost of a fully outsourced model. All you’ll need then is a PM and a sourcing lead to do the job of 40 people.

Here is a problem. If you were looking to invest in more hardware, would YOU purchase anything from Oracle if you could help it? Sun hardware is still pretty good, as good as anything out there, but jeez louise, would you want to deal with the big O anymore than you had to?

The answer to this question is obviously "no", which explains steady -10% year over year revenue declines since the Sc-m Microsystems acquisition.

So they may print $, but they print less and less of it each year (figure the SUNW posters on this board need this explained the the same way you might explain it to a child).

Not involved with Sun, but if they pull their weight, who cares!

Sun kit is still popular. Of course the pugilistic us vs them mentality that infuses ORCL creates friction that drags everyone’s perf DOWN.

Maybe it could have been 40 - 60 bn. in a better situation.

Queue the Sun haters in 5,4,3,2,…..
