That’s the best word for what I feel now after half a year at Nike - disappointment. I thought that this was a much better company and that I would enjoy working here much more than I actually do. Maybe I'm drawing conclusions too soon? I don't know, but I expected a lot more from this place.

this thread is pretty much similar to the " Culture" one. Disappointment is a relative thing, what you are disappointed about is a blessing for some. being disappointed is a good thing in your case, because you are refusing to adapt to the toxic culture that has been nurtured or a long time. Let me break it down for you: you are refusing to exploit all the perks that the company gives you, you are refusing to ask your subordinates to prepare endless ppt and take credit for their work, you are refusing to become a self obsessed lazy Nike employee, who thinks he deserves the moon and the stars, but fails to keep gym and lunch sessions below 3 hours each, you are probably refusing to resell shoes you bought from the employee store with a huge profit, you are probably refusing to rent your company car to Uber drivers while during weekends, you are probably refusing to be a sales person who gets kick back payments for the discount you give his customers, you are refusing to buy expensive cocktails, have dinners at very expensive restaurants, and charge strip club visits to the company credit card. You are probably refusing to carry your incompetent director on your shoulders with your hard work. Believe I have seen it all in this company, all of the above and much more during my 11 years. Left 10 years ago on my own. it is very simple: Leave asap, that place is not for regular people who want to have a good environment where they are challenged while being respected, where they have the opportunity to learn, and have fun doing the hard work. If I had to do it all over again, I would have left the swoosh after my 5th year. I had a huge learning curve after leaving, I made more money, I learned to trust and love my co-workers. o yourself a favor an leave asap.
It’s funny - and it’s gotten to the point where Nike hires new employees, pays them for 1-year of “training” and learning the org matrix, and pays them a 2nd-year while the new employee looks to exit and spends their time searching for something new. Should be a red flag of something deeply, deeply wrong at the swoosh.
Depends on what your expectations were coming in. If you were expecting an amazing company, good luck. However, I wouldn't say ANY company I've ever worked for was amazing. That goes for Apple and FB. Reality, they're all the same companies, heavily playing in the politics and internal shuffling, heavy hand in D&I.
Long story short, if your expecting perfect. Start your own company.
Hey just remember you can always go back to adidas if you don’t like it at Nike.
I remember that excited feeling as well - so sad once you realize the truth!
OP - sorry to hear, but trust that this feeling Ian not at all uncommon and it will only get worse. Advice would be to look for something else - doesn’t sound like this should be an urgent, hastily done new job search, which is good for you. Consider the next 6-9 months a period of “paid job searching”
