Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

It is what it is

Face it, your relationship with Enbridge is purely transactional. You sell them hours of your life and they give you money. End of story. If at any time Enbridge feels that they can continue on without you, you are gone. Treated with dignity and respect as you are walked out the door, of course. Nothing wrong with this arrangement, many marriages have less. Just don't expect Enbridge to care about you, and you should not care about Enbridge, other than fulfilling your duties and collecting your check. And this holds true not just for Enbridge, but virtually all companies that have had merciless layoffs over the years. It just is what it is.

Many don't want to hear or accept this, but @2uyy+1f4slRiv is 100 percent right.

“ Come suckle on the corporate teet with me”
Troll. There is no way anyone who works for a large corporation would say something like this, unless there is some serious self-loathing involved. If so, do something that makes you happy and stop working for ‘corporate ah*s’. Otherwise, Troll, find someplace else.

“ Oh, and you workers advocating for more respect, more pay, more flexibility, grow up and try working harder instead.”
“This new generation will question the status quo and stand up for workers rights. “
“ I'm not sure why people here are so mad at fellow workers advocating for more pay, better flexibility, more respect, more recognition”

Read OP — OP says workers are respected. OP is stating the obvious that work for pay at its base-level is transactional — you aren’t part of family (at Enbridge or any corporation) you are part of team. Just like a sports team, if you aren’t performing you get replaced.

“ So youre saying, instead of advocating for workers, you should just quit?”
Again, read OP — OP says workers are respected. OP makes no claims that wages or work is unfair. Yes, we should advocate for better work and better conditions for all workers. Leaders and teams should ensure greater diversity of faces and thoughts are valued. We should advocate for and get behind the evolution of this industry to be lower-carbon, inclusive, equitable to communities we rely on.

But at the end of the day, as OP says, you made an agreement to do work for pay. Once you accept this, what comes next is if you feel that agreement no longer works for you (or you don’t feel you can influence change anymore) then it is probably time for you to find someplace else.

“ You're doing fine - usually better than fine, and most often better than you could do elsewhere.”
Enbridge has better compensation packages for employees than most others. Ask your friends — if they are doing better than you are doing regarding compensation and benefits then go.

I don't think that post was removed due to the new gen. It mentioned the older types who are subservient to the company. Suck it up or quit. Corporations love these types.

Cute how the post about the next generation of workers was quickly deleted. This new generation will question the status quo and stand up for workers rights. Out with the old and in with the new. Curious to see how these antiquated companies react. Someone's feelings were hurt.

What is being said is the workers at Enbridge already have top tier pay when compared to rest of industry, great benefits and good flex work policies. What more could someone want. If you think it is somehow substandard, then take yourself to market. You will see there is nothing better out there.

I'm not sure why people here are so mad at fellow workers advocating for more pay, better flexibility, more respect, more recognition. These are all GOOD things that should be done, regardless of how bad or good your employer is.

So youre saying, instead of advocating for workers, you should just quit? Such a silly concept. If you make less than 250k a year, you're on our side. Also, many people can't just quit and find a new job, this is a very stressful thing.

I am so sick and tired of all the moaning and whining on here. "I never get ahead", "i am underpaid" , " managers are incompetent", "the company only cares about money" blah blah blah etc etc etc.

There is only one solution to your problem. If it is that bad and you are that dissatisfied with your employment "QUIT". Trust me you are not the type of Employee any company wants if that is your attitude. If what you say is all true, then you will succeed somewhere else. But either stay and accept, or leave and find something better. The company will not even notice you have left.

Anybody working at Enbridge complaining about working like a slave is just simply being dishonest. You're doing fine - usually better than fine, and most often better than you could do elsewhere. If not, quit. Seems simple enough.

"Finally, grow up."

Says the baby boomer who believes that everyone who has less than he does is a leech on society and they should 'pull up their bootstraps' and get to work like a sl@ve for a big faceless corporation or get a second or third job. Get the F out of here and retire already.

Come suckle on the corporate teet with me. Its not easy to get a nose this brown. I work as hard as I can because I'm trying to make Canada(America?) Great again and happily bend over to the 1% pushing capitalism past its best before date.

Oh, and you workers advocating for more respect, more pay, more flexibility, grow up and try working harder instead.

You sound like 12-year old yelling “life is unfair”. First, grow up. Right or wrong, our society chooses capitalism.

Next, for termination without cause in the range of awful to awesome companies — showing up to work, doors locked while multiple-pay checks are still owed is probably the worst. Which is only one step down from being invited to a 5 minute zoom call with 300 other people to be told its over. From you own description it seems Enbridge is further from awful and closer to awesome.

Finally, grow up.
