Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

How big is the disappointment?

In my case, the disappointment is huge. I couldn't have even imagined that Humana was a company like this when I applied for a job here. To make matters worse, I left a great job because of this one here. It didn't take me long to realize that I had made a cardinal mistake. I will leave quickly, but I am interested in the experiences of others. What did you think about this company when you applied for the job and how different is that opinion now?

I have been with Humana for several years and after the first year it was layoffs every 6 months. ESP when the merger with Aetna fell through. And here we go again. One thing I’ve noticed with the layoffs they seem to be coinciding with having to get our biometric screenings done… it is not consistent one year it’s every 12 months and then suddenly they decide that they’re realigning the insurance year to run to six months in order to keep up and fall in line for a calendar year. Hope that makes sense but they’ve done this several times. Some years it’s every 12 months and then whammo it’s like every six months and their excuse is to try to realign the insurance.Just think about it. If you have healthy employees that are paying for the health insurance then that’s money in their pocket to help off set the members that are unhealthy. So you weed out the unhealthy employees. I ran across a shady document a couple years ago that was noting if the employee was a risk or a burden.

Prepare for more disappointment kiddies. Humana stock just fell 100 points today (and the day isn't even over) due to slashed medicare advantage outlook. This is real. I would start making plans now

Fake paid Humana sell out reps? Because someone is not in your situation, they are fake paid sell out reps? Humana is more than one program…there’s maternity, transplant, a variety of pilots….if one program is transitioning, maybe some people are pleased with the transition, or maybe some people gravitate to the focus, and aren’t fake paid sell out reps….Humana hires thousands of people, and the at home program is just one of the many programs they have. Please don’t insult people by assuming your experience is everyones or assuming they are fake paid sell outs. You, poster, are shortsighted in your scope….find a different program to move to, then maybe you will see a different viewpoint

The disappointment is huge and wide spread. Any negative comments to disenchanted posters here are from fake paid Humana sell out reps. SCM Social Workers are given impossible tasks from rightfully upset members to satisfy public relations. Nothing changes and we get RIF when they buy another company like Kindred.

I am sorry for your experience at Humana. I have been here a few years. I started out as a CM and after 3 years of applying to different positions, I was finally able to transfer to a different department. Both has pros and cons, and I liked my previous manager better than this one who is strictly by the book. One constant during my tenure here is the amazing, supportive teammates. I am in my 50’s and was hoping to retire from Humana, but with the amount of RIF’s over the years, it is hard to imagine that may happen. I was so burned out from calling members. I loved speaking with members who were receptive and grateful for the calls. I really became attached to some members. However, I found that my number of UTC’s were increasing because members were not answering, I got tired of being hung up on in the middle of reading disclaimers, and struggled to stay positive while I smiled and dialed. Yes, rightfully so, the shift is to focus on higher acuity members , but these members are so sick with little to no resources. Social workers do their best to find resources and so do CM’s, but often times, few resources are available. I felt like the requirement to have 4 success stories per month was ridiculous. To me, CM’s are expected to do so much with little resources. Little things like offering transportation and a decent OTC benefit amount on every plan would be helpful…just my thoughts. Best of luck to you.

I have never had a more demoralizing and stressful job in my 20+ years in nursing. Had a terrible manager that greatly increased the stress. So micromanaged and monitored needlessly. Had no idea it would be this way when hired. Loved my teammates, it was the difficulty and insane stress that brought us together.

After leaving on the first riff a few years ago, starting my own business...LIVING...I wondered how long it would be before the rose-colored glasses finally fell off people's eyes, and humana could be seen for what it was....

Glad to hear you are moving on...take care of yourself.

Dealing with more acuity now, but that’s what we were told they’d be concentrating on, the higher quadrant folks
