Starting a union

I think State Farm employees especially those in claims should consider starting a union for better wages, benefits, working environment, and better hours.

Go ask Decatur and Danville how well the union did for them. I guess it’s inevitable that Bloomington will soon be like Danville anyway… The crime rate is getting up there, just not much urban decay YET.

For most workers, organizing a union is the only way to legally require an employer to negotiate in good faith over wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment. Without a union, employers are free to change the rules at any time, and do not have to be accountable to their workers for these changes. With a union, the parties have a duty to share relevant information, and bargain in good faith. Many employers spend a significant amount of money and effort to oppose union organizing drives.
Some employers, however, do more than spend money trying to persuade their workers to vote against unions. They might use threats, intimidation, or retaliation to make workers afraid of losing their jobs if they support the union. These measures are illegal.

As a person who has been in multiple unions, and for whom State Farm was their first non-union job: I'm not an organizer, but I'll sign the first legit petition that comes my way. We absolutely need more white collar unions in this country.

But that leadership anti-union training is no joke. I once found a part of it while looking for something else and ... yikes. They are terrified of collective bargaining.

Leadership has strict policies on reporting any union adjacent activity. There’s a training all leaders take on identifying unions and HR policies (locked to anyone not in leadership) on actions to take when they do. There’s a labor task force whose role is to shut you up and stop whatever you’re thinking of doing. Be careful what you say or share at the farm…

Unions once were a thing of the past. However, due to the laziness and failure of "due diligence" of leadership today with their outlandish bonuses and raises not meeting the cost of living, the workforce will eventually get fed up and not buy into the propaganda leadership is pushing with false promises. We saw this in our history books with the industrial revolution. Greed and selfishness begets chaos and revolution. Computers and call centers are by definition mills, process, metrics, and forced production. The theory of elasticity will once again prove to be correct. It will only get worse if they do not implement policies for the benefit of all. Leadership: Gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today.....Whimpee leadership jargon.

Your right let’s have people at the top continue to push claims into mandatory overtime that’s now been going on for five months straight for some departments with very little compensation. Let’s continue to work holidays when banks and repair shops are closed. So if your working in TL the only thing your doing is setting last day of rental and last day of storage and pushing the cal out when claims is already over a month behind on those cal. If the entire claims department walked out until we received better wages and a better work to life balance they would have to do something. There aren’t enough externals to take the work load and training new people takes time. Also it’s illegal for a company to fire workers on the grounds of wanting to unionize
