Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How long did it take for the enthusiasm to go away?

I would be lying if I said that I was not thrilled to get a job at Nike. I celebrated when I got the offer.
That was supposed to be my dream job. I thought I would want to work here for a long, long time...
However, the enthusiasm disappeared in just one year after I realized that this is not the workplace that most people think it is.

It’s still a pretty great place to work. Of course some of the enthusiasm fades after a little while, but that’s natural and not a reflection on Nike.

I can still remember the huge smile on my face as I walked on campus as an employee, the buildings the pond, the trails, deer and oh sweet Jesus those amazing gyms. The pride of having people come visit and taking them for a walk around campus. How much swoosh I loved to wear. That sweet smell of the employee store when you walk in. That never left me 16 years later when I get a store pass. Beer in the fridge….

About a year…. I started seeing through the Matrix (like the one in the movie), the glitches in the code. I wanted to move up so I made the huge mistake of working hard and have spent the night on campus to finish things.

Oh those sweet private bathrooms hidden around. I had some fun with the fair s-x in a few of them.

And then I left and couldn’t be happier. Took 9 more years to get away from footwear and apparel and that is when the blinders really fall. All that insanity??? It’s not you, it’s them

A couple of years for me. I had a similar experience as the first person who commented on this, where our team was pretty insulated from the BS. Eventually we got absorbed into a larger org and it became he-l. I never saw so many people get so miserable so quickly.

I celebrated too. It was life-changing for me. It used to be my dream job. Had a wonderful manager. I used to tell everyone that this was the best place I have ever worked. And it was. I think this was largely because my leadership worked to insulate us from the worst of it. After several reorgs, good leaders were replaced or moved and then it went downhill very quickly. 10 years with Nike. I poured my heart and soul into this place. I got laid off in the last reorg.
