Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Fair pay will bring change

Verizon workers need to be paid fairly. If you can't hire and retain good people then it's a simple problem to solve. Pay us and we will stay. We want to be here or at least at some point wanted and agreed to work here. Health care is good, 401K is solid, PTO is fair.... but alas you get all these staffing headaches (quality of sale, rehiring, open positions etc) because you allowed the salary pendulum to swing too far. $80K+ for an inside sales rep was too high..... $45K ($21/h) is obviously too low to find and retain quality people. Make a payroll budget starting at $25/hour and watch everything fall into place ($55k). For an average store that breaks down to $400/day increase in expenses or less. You want loyalty, quality and knowledge... that's the price. Simple fix. People will seek us out and work hard to stay.

I don't think millennials are lazy. I think they are very willing to work hard but for the right pay. How is it that services and goods keep going up in price but wages go down or stay the same. Nobodies paycheck went up over the past few years. If big red wants to continue with this RIS BS then they will continue to get minimal effort from everyone including millennials.

Yup we are in the era of everyone gets a gold star and a participation trophy. None of these new hires would last in a individual commission environment.

The problem is millennials are just plain lazy. They want the big checks, but they really don’t wNt to work hard enough to earn them. They’ve caused all these low pay, lousy commission issues at Vz, along with the Leaders being paid too much and spending all the profit on bummer deals.

As a decade-long in-store VZW indirect authorized retailer front-line sales technician, the pay here is not too low.

The problem is that unless you are in a 200+ contracts per month store, too much downtime in between customers reduces your pay to about $16/hour which includes modern-day commissions. (Lower per sale)

Verizon already pays above market grades for similar jobs and their benefit packages are better. If you increase pay you just increase expenses leading to more layoffs. Employees will be expected to do more with smaller staff. If you haven't noticed, profit margins are pretty low and debt is very high.
