Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Say goodbye to your Corporate Title

If you have a Corporate Title such as AVP/VP/SVP be prepared to loose it or get demoted next year as part of the next stage in the job title changes. There’s some vaguely worded references to this in the FAQ on TW that indicate they will be “reevaluated”. No doubt another part of their plan to pi-s people off so they quit rather than lay them off and pay severance.

Yeah the people that put it in their signature haven’t learned it’s worthless. They’re still caught up in being big stuff hot shot status.

Boy was I excited a couple of years ago when I got my VP title. Then I found out it means less than nothing, and people laugh at you if you put it in your signature. So yes, it’s pretty worthless.

Who cares? The officer titles mean nothing.

Envious? I got the VP title when they re-did the tech job titles in 2020. I did nothing different to earn it, just fell into my lap. It’s useless. Maybe in some lines of business it means something, but certainly not across the bank

This is absolutelky correct. During the Whacovia merger, all those folks had these titles coming over to WF and I was told it was done instead of giving them raises. It was the thing at the time. I didn't get one until I went through my 4th reorg. I had VPs working for me prior to that and it doesnt guarantee a thing. It is all show, cosmetic only, and doesn't buy you anything position-wise.

Most of us got titles in lieu of raises or promotions. Remember that Wells is cheap AF.

It's a stupid decision, but it can't be about attrition. Hardly anyone with a corp title actually cares about it. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that the people that care the most are those at the top (senior executive VP blah blah, whatever)...so how would it drive mass attrition?

Around here, VP really means Vice Peon.

Same here. No idea why I got it, never really thought about it since and couldn't care less if they took it back.

wow so folks bashing titles are just envious. Why don’t you consider the hard work it took to go from non-officer to officer to AVP to VP. That being said, true it doesn’t get me anymore but why not me. Keep them, get rid of them, doesn’t matter as long as it’s consistent across the company

It's been a banking thing from years ago. No promotion or more money but you get to say you are a VP to your family. Is there a basket I can drop my AVP initials into? The sad part for me is that for 8 years Wells was a GREAT place to work. I loved my teams and managers, yes Tech, everyone worked their a** off and then came 2017 with the scandals and then in 2018, Charlie looked down and said, this is such a nice place to work. That needs to end. And so it did

Its is stupid those people wear VP, SVP, EVP, Dir, Sr Dir to showoff superior status and power in Wells Fargo. They are self-centered and self-promoters lazy corporate elitists cashing big paychecks from Wells Fargo. All problems and failures wont stop because Wells Fargo are big bank for those lazy showoff corporate elitists just kick back play around let all sh--s roll down to the low level workers . Wells Fargo afford to pay the multimillion fines and violations.

10 years ago I saw a coworker post on a forum that AVP/VP/SVP titles are meaningless at large banks. I was shocked, thinking that’s not the case as I was a newly minted VP thinking I’m big stuff and proudly displaying it in my office.

Well, after gaining a bit more experience, turns out he’s right. The titles mean nothing. They don’t protect you. They don’t pay you more. They don’t say you’re eligible for merit increase or you get X % bonus. They don’t stop the layoffs of you if you’re a VP or SVP. It’s literally a piece of paper that has zero value. On the flip side it is a very cheap way for WF to incentivize people that haven’t realized this yet and reward them with something that costs them nothing.

They might be former Wachovia. That was definitely true that you got a week of PTO with VP at Wachovia. My manager used to dangle it as a carrot for us.

If you have not noticed, many execs are simply known as "Head of XYZ". So for some, it is no change at all.

VP meant nothing during (and before) Kovacevich either. Don't make stuff up, plenty of us have been here much longer than you and can recognize the BS when we see it.

It did years ago, back in the days of Di-k Kovacevich, but not anymore.

When I first got promoted to VP I got an extra week of PTO, but now they don’t do that. The only thing it really matters for now is leverage when you go to apply at a new company. Plus it helped convince my mother-in-law that I was worthy of marrying her daughter.

I get that it’s d-mb to have a million VP’s, but it does help with clients and is standard practice in the industry. If they take away the VP and I’m just a “Relationship Manager” competing against another banks SVP it doesn’t make it any easier. It’s hard enough to win deals as-is for us today.
