Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We are now ‘Hunters’

Sales Engineers and their roles are changing. We are now designated as hunters, but what does this mean for sales reps?

Can anyone elaborate? I've been an apps SE at Oracle for over 20 years and never heard of this. Is it in a particular organization? It is not happening in ERP/EPM.

“Execute like a machine”

Our training kicked off with this direction.

Great, so much for focusing on our customers. It’s all about us! The elephant in the room, however, is that sales engineers are not machines (neither are our customers)
That said, if they want us to be like a machine, they had better make it a well oiled machine. Where are the raises? What will the bonus structure be?

You can’t just take, you have to give!

SEs now required to present at QBRs. If idi0t SRs can do it then surely SEs can figure out how to.

I heard that sales engineers were going to assigned quotas (was talking to one of the Sales Cloud admins). Can anyone corroborate this? Speaking only for myself I can say that quotas would be the last straw. Working here is like some kind of horrible nightmare.

“It’s not my job” can’t be used as excuse anymore! Get used to it! You are after all, a sales engineer.

Worked at a small biz where the boss tried to turn everyone into a sales person. Drove people out bc let’s face it. If you take a job as a web dev, you aren’t gonna put up with being forced to make scripted sales calls.

That idea won’t scale well. Trust me.

That's it! THAT'S WHAT HAS BEEN WRONG WITH THE ORACLE SALES ORG ALL THIS TIME! The sales engineers HAVE HAD THE WRONG TITLE!

Eureka, we're saved!!!!!

Thank god we have geniuses back in charge of running the sales org again. I mean, where would be be otherwise!?!?!?!?

Brace yourselves, quotas for sales engineers are next. I sure hope you are good at cold-calling. I always loved it when the sales org tried to make sales engineers into reps (NOT!) - pendulum is swing back that way again. That's a nightmare if your a real sales engineer, and if it's not enough to get you to leave then you deserve everything that is coming your way.

Hunter s? WTF? Do you want to be part of a toxic culture where sales people are predators? What happened to sales working with customers to build solutions.
