Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Nepotism

Nepotism has become very apparent at Enbridge. When I see what is happening and how some candidates are being picked, it seems to me that all my efforts are in vain. Very demotivating!
However, I do not believe that the situation in other companies is much better than here when it comes to nepotism. I have a friend who left here and is now in a company where he says nepotism is even more apparent than here.
From my perspective, I think it's hard to find a company where nepotism is a bigger issue than here?

That fine. If you don't want to want to teach them to be excellent at office politics, teach them to be excellent at front line contribution.

People without political skills should never be in leadership. Ideas without politics go nowhere fast.

I don’t know about you, but I just love incompetent employees who are really good at office politics and getting ahead. They’re so kind, generous and wonderful in a crisis. I enjoy spending time with them. Their self serving actions make the world a better place. Do make sure you teach your children how to be excellent at office politics.

Nepotism huge at Spectra cesspool also. Managers hiring their kids and relatives at will. No job postings. It was disgusting to watch. I have no good memories of that craphole for that and many other reasons. And things actually got worse after Enbridge took over.

How are you marketing yourself?

If you think you're somehow above that, good luck finding a company that will treat you differently.

Being very competent makes you ideal for continuing to do what you do. If you strive for mobility, set the stage by gaining the skills and sell it.

Politics are not evil. They are the decision making engine of any organization. They are how money gets allocated for initiatives. They determine how organization structures evolve. There are healthy politics and toxic ones. Play them to your benefit.
