I know that all too well. I was in Markets which became Finance & Risk when McK prodigy DC took the helm. Everything was McK driven. They even authored a 50+ page "Green Book" that was supposed to be the org play book. It made little sense and I stopped reading before page 10. As for DC, I don't think I saw him off the 30th floor in 3XQ. Maybe once or twice he'd come to 22 to visit TC.

All I'm saying is I'll have the guts to tell McK thanks but no thanks, and if the Board dislikes that, they can fire me. I'll take the Golden Parachute...less for McK to siphon away!

You're missing the point on how the game is played. Senior executives (CEO, COO) hire these external consultants to provide recommendations that they (CEO,COO) already know. Its theatre.

Instead of the CEO saying to the board and his management team that "I think we should cut 20% of FTEs etc", he/she can hide behind the McK brand and say "After an extensive review, McK have recommended that we urgently cut 20%...."

This is how the horrible corporate game is played. It makes it even more horrible when you realise that the CEO is likely a former McK foot soldier

McK does some things very well: product ideation and design sprints. I wouldn't let them reorganize my basement, though. If you want a bunch of top tier MBAs who have no practical experience in an operating company telling you how you should operate, go for it. Hire McK or BCG.

I will never, ever hire them for that kind of thing...assuming that is ever my call. It's like asking them what time it is, then lending them your watch, and being returned a box full of watch components and an incomplete set of reassembly instructions

I really do admire how the Angel of Death can justify the huge consulting fees.
