Those who did not get a raise

A colleague did not get a raise and it is not clear if it was a mistake or what. Let me just say that he is one of those hard-working people. Does that mean those who didn’t get a raise can expect to get cut soon?

No raise is almost guarantee that you'll be cut in the next round. There's a round happening by end of month, start looking externally and take your severance and start enjoying your life again.

It depends on what other people in your group got. It used to be that people in our group didn’t get annual raises. Now the norm is a 2-5% annual raise. I would only be concerned if most people were getting a raise, but you or your friend wasn’t.

@1ylb+1eUgefl3 That's because there was a hiring freeze and they couldnt hire anyone if they fired you. You probably proved something to them considering you got a raise the following year.

I got canned in the next round after getting a 0% raise. Deciding to look externally was the best decision I ever made. Take the severance and run.

Of course it’s a hint. No raise means you got a below average review and were probably warned in a subtle way that you might be laid off. My boss stiffed me on the raise, too. I got the sh---y bonus, but zero raise. Yes, I’m looking for a new job, hopefully remote so I don’t have to look at these mofos. We just had the best year in the stock market and record profits, and sky high inflation and to get zero raise is no mistake, it’s a warning to start looking for a new job.

And it you didn’t get at least 7% raise, you’re not even beating inflation (that’s if you believe inflation is only 7%).

The market may be down now, but it will rise again.
Always has.
I'd suggest he double down on his work level to get better rewards in the future.
