Form a union?

With so many people in constant fear of what is to come, complaining about their current roles and how they are being treated by leaders, it sounds like a perfect time to join forces and form a union. Has anyone looked into this? National Labor Relations board has information on how to start the process.

Unions are formed based on classes of employees. Put together the right class, and you have a union that meets the NLRB rules. Unions can collectively bargain for wages, salary increases, benefits, retirement benefits, termination conditions, PTO and more. They’re powerful tools. And that’s exactly why employers don’t like them—because they want to dictate the terms. Any time someone tells you unions are bad or don’t work, it’s likely because they’re management, have an antiquated way of looking at unions, or simply don’t understand how they work to benefit employees.

It’s an insurance company…you really think if they’re going in one direction, not another, a union can do collective bargaining? Maybe your skills don’t match, or your role is obsolete. AIP is not a negotiable bargaining tool. I don’t think you understand unions or how Humana works as a company….a union of nurses? With all different skill levels and backgrounds, in all different roles? And how offensive and exclusionary to the other roles at Humana…..a union of nurses, trying to collective bargain for a job that won’t exist because a company is going in a different direction? Get real.

And, thanks for noticing there are other people working for Humana that aren’t nurses….this is your flaw in thinking….not realizing there are a collective of roles and people, not just the nurses.

You have no bargaining power if you realize that raises are based on performance evaluations….let’s say, a co worker gets a lower rating than you, you are exceptional, they are full…are you willing to bargain away your potential larger percentage raise to give a lower worker co worker a higher percentage raise?

We are not equals, nor are we hired in as equals….some of us have more experience, some have less, some have experience in different backgrounds….some of us aren’t nurses….a union won’t work…. Let’s say you suck at your job and get terminated….a union is going to negotiate you to stay when you’re fired for cause?

Get real.

And, other employees are not “other classes”….quite elitist of you, and for a union to work there needs to be acknowledgment and acceptance and equality among all workers, and Humana is not set up that way…

But, you go ahead, share your AIP and raise percentage points with a coworker who does less work and is on a performance improvement plan, who does cr-p work that you have to do double the work for their laziness and ineptitude….collective bargaining, baby!

Imagine a union of nurses that could negotiate wages, terminations and more. Imagine other classes of employees banding together and doing the same. That’s the power collective bargaining brings

Unions are pretty much the only way employees can negotiate with a corporate giant like Humana. Imagine a union of nurses that could negotiate wages, terminations and more. Imagine other classes of employees banding together and doing the same. That’s the power collective bargaining brings. I hope associates at Humana figure it out. Otherwise, our fates are at the mercy of the corporation.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. I am not Pro Union, just another group of power hungry people wanting to exploit you for their own ends. Humana put out all of this propaganda about the value of the associates, just remember, you are on this site because Humana has adopted a policy which massages the bottom line by make staff disposable. Don't expect them to do the right thing,

Not quite sure the situation at Humana falls under the collective bargaining ideals of a union…how would unionizing help? It won’t stop a RIF, or a jerk of a boss
