Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Unions…

I keep seeing all these corporate people posting all these negative things about unions and how much money they take from you. You do know that the union will fight for you, and you do know you can make the union work for you and adjust how much money they actually get as a fee from you.

Ex.. without union
you make 16 per hour for 40 hours = $640.
With union you make
19 per hour =$760 minus dues of 25 per week not half your check = $735
That is an extra $95 per week and $4940 more per year Even with paying the union dues.

The contract you set up with the union can be negotiated on both sides so that the people who work for the company actually get what they want. A union is not a dictatorship.
Unions are not the same as what they were, Everyone thinks they’re corrupt like they were in the 70s and 80s, but look at your corporate structure and how much waste and corruption we have at the top.. Look at the top 5% of the country and how much richer they are without all the unions… Hmmm

There will also be no more position eliminations without plenty of notice. A union will guarantee you get paid severance instead of being forced to take another full-time position that may be equal to what you currently have. Why do you think they got rid of all the job codes. Look how much severance they’re not paying over the last five years. We’re talking about hundreds of millions of dollars in lost severance to our associates.

I am not corporate. Unions are a cancer and need to be eliminated. I quit UPS because they kept stealing my money to pay for a Union rep.

@mfv By the time you pay union dues you will take home less money. You need to be full time before you can really benefit from union representation.

No group is in more need of union representation than the abused work force of this abusive company. Sam Walton called management by intimidation "chicken management", but that is the only method those currently in charge of running this company know. Harassment and intimidation is now the rule of law here. Nobody should accept the kind of working conditions employees of this company have grown to accept as "normal". It is definitely not normal to be treated the way this company treats its staff. We deserve better. We deserve better working conditions. We deserve to be treated with respect. We deserve to be fairly compensated for our labor. We deserve to have protection from forced attrition as we earn the advantages of seniority.

The company will tell you that they oppose unions because it drives a wedge between the employee and company management and therefore negatively affects the "open communication" and bogus open door policy of the company. Do not swallow this corporate propaganda. When was the last time the company listened to you or your views? You fill out the grass roots survey year after year, but have you noticed any changes as a result? Did you listen to your store manager coach you on how to fill it out "correctly"? The company does not care about communicating with you, they only care about CONTROLLING you. You are nothing but an expense to them......an expense they want to control and minimize.

THE COMPANY DOES NOT WANT ASSOCIATES TO UNIONIZE BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY US BETTER AND TREAT US LIKE HUMAN BEINGS!!!

What is everybody so afraid of? Put it to a vote!!!!

Contact your local UFCW office for help in launching this initiative.

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

I don’t see how It can get any worse. Maybe we should start looking for a union. As a part timer I’m tired of my hours being cut down to the bare bones. And market 15 he’s told all the club manager is a part-time work and work 8 or 12 hours per week. How can you make it. They want you to have open availability to get more shifts but there’s no more shifts to get. If nothing else the part-time associate need a union.
