Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Hate to be a broken record…

…but just freaking leave. It’s liberating. You’d be surprised at how well the skills you don’t think that you have transfer to entirely different careers. CAREERS, not jobs. You don’t have to work holidays and weekends. You don’t have to go in on your days off. You can have benefits. You can have a chair and respect and growth. You don’t have to be 25 years old. The first time that I had to (quite legitimately) call out, I was terrified, and couldn’t stop apologizing. Apparently, it’s perfectly ok, and coworkers and management just check in on you to make sure you’re ok. They want you to succeed because they want their business to succeed. Eye opening…Belk doesn’t care about failure because they failed, not you.

Take a deep breath, hold your nose, dive deep, whatever you need to do, but I promise, you won’t die. Just freaking leave.

@4bdo Ignorance, prejudice and just plain stupidity are the reasons that anyone would treat someone speaking or writing English as though they are more intelligent. Have a heart and compassion! Listen with your heart.

@4yiw (OP), I know exactly what you’re talking about.

And to @4bdo:
Something is seriously wrong with you.

@4yi. Your post makes perfect sense to me. Belk is very abusive to their associates!

You drove 40 minutes to shovel your office? huh? Was it snowing inside? That post makes no sense

OP here again. Snowed/iced in today, and I was in a panic. Texting my boss by 6am. She actually didn’t care that we couldn’t open today. I moved my appointments to Wednesday and Drove for 40 minutes through ice to go shovel our office, but it was definitely not expected. I just have Belk PTSD, where I feel terrified that I will lose my job over things that are beyond my control. The reality is that no one expects you to Superwoman any nonsense.
So that’s why I still come here. Because I cannot actually believe that a company cares more about ME than about their small profit. I did what I did today because I care about them. They did what they did because they care about me. Belk is literally abusive. I’m not exaggerating, it’s just the truth. I’m having a hard time accepting the way the world works because of what they did.

Why aren't managers required to attend classes or watch videos on how they should treat employees?

Thank all of you for your positive reinforcement. @adwa. You are so right. We are great employees! And @OP+1.Thanks for the push. I do need to get out of there. I am older and physically not 100 percent but I have skills to offer. Some of us have more choices than others but we all still have choices.

I’m the OP. I can’t believe I still lurk and post on this cr-p, lol.
But Belk damn near destroyed me. It left me feeling useless and stupid and pained. And I just desperately want people still stuck there, the loyal, amazing employees that I worked with every day, to know that they’re so much better than this. Because I did work with great people!! And we were just talked down to and overworked and overwhelmed, but we were GREAT employees. So many other places will be blessed to have you. And appreciate you.

Why do you still play a broken record? Everyone uses Compact Disc these days. Just kidding, Belk is a broken record beyond fixing and we all know it ok. If you like to work for a sweatshop and live the painful life at Belk then it is your choice. It is the life you choose for the price you pay! Get out why you still have one life to live.

This is spot on. If Been can't afford to treat employees like humans, that's on them not you. Get out while the job market is lit!
