Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I really don't know how XOM will replace all those people?

Great employees are leaving who are not easy to replace at all. Only one of my colleagues has been replaced, as for the others, I really don't know how, and if, they will manage to replace them. These are not positions that can be performed by mediocrities, or at least they should not be performed by mediocrities, but people with a lot of experience and knowledge, ie people who will be properly paid, valued, etc.

Where I am at, management is desperately working to replace many positions. People are leaving faster than they can hire. They are calling interns that they did not give jobs to in the past and begging them to apply.

All the while I wonder if they will target 8% PIPs this year. It just seems like no one knows who is running the show.

Don't kid yourself, anyone can be replaced.

Haven't we learned our lessons from the recent past: By outsourcing, companies will get a minimum of 3 workers for the price of 1, and the 3 replacements will gladly work for a small bowl of $tinky )urry as opposed to real wages.

I put up a post about bad personnel decisions at a large private US company. You posted a tirade about energy policy in Germany. I’m not sure I’m following you here.

Yes, O&G executives are in the mode of managed decline. I never said I liked it or thought it was good; I just acknowledged reality.

The company doesn’t give a sh*t about people’s experience and/or knowledge because it’s process and systems driven to maintain status quo which in the long term is unfortunately not sustainable.

Fools come in many flavors, some are activists and some are our managers (the latter being also mostly crooks).
NOBODY said that EM got ruined by the activists; they’ve tried, for sure, but the credit goes to our management.

Take it easy with the “managed decline”. This is not Germany, people do have a say in this country. It’s easy to believe that current hysteria that has seeped into the ranks of investors will continue forever, but just wait until energy prices start climbing to unnerving levels.
Germany has the highest prices for electricity in Europe and 60% of Germans disapprove, but the activists have their way. If 60% of Americans will be unhappy with forced expensive energy, do you think they will be cowed into submission? It’s going to be an interesting experiment.

Manager decline is the best way to think about this, and the truth is that executive comp will go way up as the decline accelerates (counterintuitive I know).

As the executive realize there’s no future for the company, they will get much more short term in their thinking. Abysmal/offensive raises because it’s the best short term for their pockets. They will also get even more shameless in their greed, desperate to capture every last penny for themselves before the music stops.

It’s going to get much much worse.

This is what managed decline looks like. Expect high attrition, hiring freezes, outsourcing, and the occasional layoff at all O&G companies for years to come until they finally go out with a whimper.

Remember, the goal of those with ability to deploy golden parachutes is to reduce workforce at any cost so they get to keep their rewards. If they listen to HR and legal, the only way they can avoid lawsuits from departing employees is by letting go picking and choosing who they want to keep. Picking and choosing within the performance assessment (PA) / PIP process is another thing as it is shady and shields decision makers. So think! If the mgmt. is doing all this for their gain why would they try to retain and rehire more that takes out of their big fat checks and compensation packages.
