Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

RTO shouldn't be such a big issue

I can get being mad since there are plenty of things wrong with Fiserv right now, but expecting employees to return to the office is not one of them. If the pandemic never happened, you'd have been in your office every workday in the past two years and it wouldn't have crossed your mind to complain about not being able to work from home. This was never going to last, and if you convinced yourself that it would that's on you, not the company.

You're a joke. Wake up and look around mo--n. The world is changing. Good luck getting any young talent. But feel free to stay aboard that sinking ship.

I have been remote for over 7 years, nothing to do with the pandemic, so yes I have a right to be frustrated by it.

Or the fact that they are getting rid of employees who have been remote for over 10 years. Never had an office to return too and now RTO isn’t the same for those people. It is a big deal

I heard during a recent 60 minutes story that pre pandemic 1 in 67 professional jobs were remote, now it is 1 in 7! One of the ladies interviewed said there is nothing that an office can give her that her home cannot provide. It is going to make it very hard for companies like Fiserv to compete for talent.

LOL
A committee spent time to write a return to office playbook. I feel as though we’re back in junior high.

And @1trx+1eK9gdFc by end of 2022 it’s expected to be 25% of all professional jobs. Companies can save on real estate and attract the best talent, not just those willing to relocate to NJ

As of Q4 2021, 17 million professional jobs in the US are now permanently remote. That’s up from 14 million in Q3 2021, and about 3 million prior to the pandemic.

Overall, permanently remote jobs are now 18% of the US professional workforce, up from 15% in Q3, 13% in Q2, and 3% before the pandemic. (I should note this data comes from a comprehensive inventory of jobs, not a sample.)

I've left Fiserv but I cannot disagree with this dope any more. My team was all remote, asked to give up their seats for others and others lost their office to closings. It had nothing to do with the pandemic, until FB decided he needed an office full of yes men and woman. Not missing Fiserv, only the people. WFH now, got a raise, less stress, win win for me.

I worked in the office five days a week and I was against return to the office before the pandemic. I guess you forgot about that little detail. How Fiserv was going to lay off all remote employees and have them train up their replacements.

Good news. We only have one left who hasn't quit yet. Development team meeting are getting really quiet since no one is ever replaced.

I am a proud and happy New Jersey resident.

I resent the frequent insults hurled at my state on this board. If you don't want to move, you don't need to insult New Jersey.

We from New Jersey could insult your states too, but we don't.

It says more about those doing the name-calling than it says about my state.

The pandemic did happen. And it globally changed the way businesses run. Particularly in tech. Watch the new 60 mins episode from last night to educate yourself on the data to support this fact. This is the worst business move Frank and team could be making at this point in our country’s history. But hey, he and his buddies will get rich quickly so who cares about the future for the rest of us.

Your claim regarding the pre-pandemic WFH status is simply not true. Many individuals, including myself, worked from home.

Onto the more troubling attitude in this post. Yes, there were a number of people who showed up every day. You state that, if there were no pandemic, those employees would never have complained about coming into the office. While technically correct, what you're really saying is they'd be working without the experience of both models and, thus, still buying into the "you're more productive at work" message of a management that wished to maintain that model. The argument about the productivity of the two scenarios will rage on, but now a group of employees who had previously only operated under the WFW model now has experience with both. Nothing wrong with that. Ignorance is never beneficial.

Wow. Not only is it totally false to say everyone was in the office 5 days a week pre covid as there were many folks working out of home offices, those of us who were office based had flexibility when JY ran the show! I had multiple bosses over 10 plus years, and any time I requested to be remote for whatever reason it was granted. Never was I told no. Not one time. And neither was anyone else I worked with in the office told no.

So to claim this is some sort of return to the status quo is a joke. Flexibility was the norm, and for reasons that don't add up that has been taken away under FB.

We are 1 week out from planned return which surely can't happen with the spike in cases but instead of an update what do we get? More Clover spam.

With Teams video conferencing, what is wrong with the greener initiative by people working remotely? Does fiserv want to be part of a greener initiative and work remotely and lead the way in carbon reduction? Or does fiserv want to revisit an old outdated non green back to office Boomer mentality?

I wish folks would stop saying "New Jersey is the arm pit of America...". Outside of the Newark airport area it is quite beautiful (hence 'the Garden State'). Just saying....

You are so wrong. Fiserv has for years allowed employees to work from home. Some employees have never been in an office. Jobs were posted as remote opportunities. First Data used to have work from home too. It changed for FD and Fiserv only when Frank started. HE does not believe you can be collaborative unless you are co-located. That is HIS antiquated philosophy.

umm, i was never in an office.... I was hired remote, so it is a big issue. New Jersey is the arm pit of America, people are fleeing that poorly run state, and it's a long way from where I currently live.

What about people like me, who had their office permanently closed? No big deal though, I got a 50% bump in TC along w/ RSU package so i'm good.

But still, there are people who are affected this way and it's not really fair to them to ask them to uproot their lives

No, I was remotely based before with the expectation of being remotely based moving forward. Also, for many Pacific NW employees, the local offices were permanently shuttered and the relocation options given were 1-2k miles away.

Forcing people to go to another office across the country and revoking previous WFH agreements have absolutely nothing to do with COVID.

Posts like this are disingenuous.

Wouldn't be an issue if the office they wanted us to return to wasn't 2,000 miles away

BUT the pandemic did happen.

Many spent the last two years reordering their entire lives around WFH. Some are excited to return to the office. Some don't care. Others would prefer to WFH.

I'm not salty. I should thank Frank for forcing me out of my comfort zone. I'll soon work for a new company, earning remarkably more money, bonus, 401k matching AND I'll still be sitting here at my desk at home.

Considering we are still in the midst of a pandemic and the COVID numbers are higher than ever, we have every right to complain.

There are many people who were hired as WFH, who have WFH for years/decades, who are being made to go to an office now. I think they have the right to complain.
