Some would say that this is good, but to me it is worrying and signals that IBM is not going in a good direction. Of course I use any downtime to find a better opportunity because I think 2022 will be turbulent here. I believe many here are in a similar situation - there isn't enough work for them?

Server comrades love working from home. In other words they watch their Tellies all day long but still get paid.
To post ID: @1xhi+1eEDbRXT: I completely agree with you. Amazon and Google are hiring like crazy. You will have a chance to double/triple your income and also to contribute to the company you are working for.
And I've never been busier.
It is a big company.
My experience for decades has been that if you have little or nothing to do you are being marginalized and being shut out of whatever is happening. So immediately start looking for a new opportunity because it is only a matter of time before you are laid off.
This is the MBA ideology.
Depending on the organization you may even be accused of being unproductive when you were not allowed to do any serious work.
Go with the flow until the severance, just be ready. While I do not like IBM as a company, may time there was great. I got paid well and got all my work done in 3hr everyday. I "worked at home" whenever possible and was able to do time consuming volunteer job for 3 years. When I final got my RA, I had enough money to buy a new car. With the 90 days notice and resume support, I was at a new job a month before my last day at IBM.
While I did not grow in cutting edge skills that much at IBM, I do appreciate the community work I was able to do while there. Now I have a better job with money, but really have to work a full day now. Most people over 40 at IBM now will be gone one way or the other in next 5 yrs, but enjoy the ride (don't work too much:) and take the money and good benefits. With good 401K match I banked well over an extra 100k while at IBM.
Well, it does not help when IBM, every first quarter, totally reorganize Sales. And again this time around this is true. A complete reorg of Sales is happening, and it won't be settled and done until probably March if not later. So, in the meantime, obviously not much of anything (products, services) will be sold. The Sales guys are struggling to understand the new Sales org, strategy, territories and how they will make money.
So if you are in Services (IBM Consulting or Expert Labs), enjoy the free time off.
As always, great job IBM!!
I am actually busy as heck and not even being sarcastic. Do we work at the same company?
Same. Have had nothing to do for almost 2 months. No new projects in the pipeline. Consulting. Know a bunch of others who are also doing nothing. I haven’t seen the pipeline this dry since right before the layoffs of 2016. Yet there are hundreds of open hiring tickets. I could care less though. Just submitted my resignation so they’ll have one more hiring ticket to open.
That’s one of my main reasons for leaving. I’ve been doing 2-3 hours of work a day the last year or so. I’m so damn bored.
