Our work group has been back in the office full time since February 2021

“Second, objectively speaking there is no doubt something is lost without the F2F interaction.”

Are you sure about that? My memories of the office were people showing up 30-45 mins late, leaving 30-45 mins early, scrolling their phones, taking 2-hr lunches, and staring at screens while wearing earbuds. In other words:

There was almost no meaningful collaboration taking place.

What is lost by not going to the office are the minor perks enjoyed by prickish middle-managers, which explains why that group is clamoring to have everyone forced back to the office at all costs.

I’m in my mid-30s at a site. First of all, I’ve been working in the office this entire time with an exception of about 2 weeks when we first shut down.

Second, objectively speaking there is no doubt something is lost without the F2F interaction. I am not saying 8hrx5days is what is required. But to think you can be fully effective without going to the office is wrong. To say otherwise means you just want the easy way out and to do less for the same pay. Natural to feel that way but I can also understand why leadership wants to push back to the office…

There has not been any push for my group to return to the campus. I’ve been told to work from home all I want to.

“WFH changes in Texas locations”

The best advice for anyone seeking WFH on a permanent basis is to leave EM and O&G. Half of the people in the industry think it’s the still the 80’s, while the other half knows it isn’t but wants the 80’s to come back (tape hiss and all). Unsurprisingly, this is reflected in the anachronistic approach to work, and pretty much everything else.

Offices technically became obsolete once most companies went paperless. Without the need to move paperwork, the only function of the modern office is to provide to middle managers minor perks to go with their status, hence why they’re all clamoring to get everyone back there.

@tee+1eDzWQDq is correct. At EMHC, it's totally at the discretion of your supervisor. I suspect next week, there will be the expectation that everyone is present at their desks. It's really a shame.

I am at EMHC E2 and our supervisor is having most of the group be onsite by the end of next week once everyone is back from vacation.

I work at EMHC. It is still "flex your day", which basically means it is at the discretion of your supervisor. No COVID/Omicron WFH actions have been taken, and nor will they be, most likely.
