I haven't been happy here for a long time but I'm too scared to do anything about it. I start checking out other companies and by the time I'm done, they seem worse than AIG. Is this really where we're at? No good companies left? No places where people are actually happy and satisfied with their jobs? If that's the case, why leave at all?

If you are truly unhappy, why not look at alternatives? Lots of places are hiring. There's no perfect company where everyone is happy about everything. More likely, you end up somewhere ranging from slightly to moderately better. Worst case, you remain unhappy but get a pay raise.

Spoken like a true aig lifer. A big percentage of employees are just like you. Too scared or lazy to make a switch so they just keep taking their licks. Why do you think upper management isn't scared of giving you a 2% raise every year? Because they know you will never leave.
You have to decide if you just want a paycheck until they rif you or if you want to control your own destiny and career. If you don't have confidence that you can achieve the latter then just exist at aig like most other aig long timers.
Go for places that don't have active threads on this board. Trust me, there are thousands of great places to work.
