Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

The worst mistake is to stay here too long

If I could turn back time, I would never stay here longer than a year. That is enough even for the most sceptical ones to realize that this is not a company for them, if they had any talent, will to learn and wanted to progress and be valued. I might never have come here if I knew what I know about this company now. I’m almost sure that I’m not the only one who’s disappointed and thinks he’s just wasted time here?

I estimate that 80 percent of Enbridge employees are varying degrees of suck ups. The rest are victims and losers. They are the employees who get bullied and blamed.

I have never seen a successful Enbridge employee who wasn’t a suck up. That quality and skill are necessary for survival here.

I left oil and gas altogether and likely won't return. Working at enbridge has made me despise the oil and gas culture. Life is short, we have to live authentic to ourselves. No point trying to be a sellout.

To the poster who recommends that Enbridge employees should spend a lot of time sucking up: Yes. Absolutely. That is exactly what we should all do. Spend our careers sucking up so we can get “tapped on the shoulder” at Enbridge. Don’t you just love those people? Real leaders. So full of integrity.

Where is it that you found better opportunities? Same industry? Large company or smaller company. I've left Enbridge and trying to decide if I should change industries.

I am a contractor at Enbridge and I can't wait to get out of here. Managers are id--ts, all they do here is having meetings. You ask a simple question (yes or no) and they call a meeting, discuss it for one hour and at the end agree to have another meeting. So you will never get an answer to your question but managers are busy jumping from one meeting to another. They also told us that everybody will have to take unpaid time off at Christmas for two weeks. I guess this is done so that managers could get their bonuses. Hate this place.

So spend allot of time sucking up to get "tapped on the shoulder". You are not going to get noticed otherwise

This company is full of who you know, not what you do. No good deed or extra effort will get you anywhere. Hiring processis biased.

If you’re going to make career progress at Enbridge, you’re made aware of it fairly early on. You’re “tapped on the shoulder” in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways. And, in return, you give your life to the company — and are richly rewarded for doing so. You become a pr-------e, to be sure, but one that is highly paid.

If you don’t get that “tap on the shoulder,” you become a much lower paid — and much less valued — pr-------e. And you find yourself posting sad comments on the layoff.com.

I was at Enbridge 5 years. I believe that was too long. In those 5 years, I completed some of the most challenging and high impact projects, but when it came to advancement opportunities, I watched how middle management chose candidates based on nepotism, bias and who was in what clique. I moved on and found a better opportunity. I always say I didn’t leave enbridge, I left the incompetent middle management. There is no real way to progress in this organization based on merit and skills.

I worked there for 7 years. In those years i really didnt get much of a raise and there was nowhere to progress to. Get experience and move on. The days of wanting to work there and them being the measuring stick are over.

That is right. “Leadership” at Enbridge is a joke. If you want to learn, progress and be a part of something meaningful you need to run away from enbridge fast.
