Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Religious Exemptions

I encourage everyone to read up on this subject. The main theme running through the whole process is that it's up to the employer to determine the following:

  1. Do they recognize your religion as valid.
  2. Is the head of you religion for or against Vaccines? The Pope has stated he is for the Vaccine.
  3. Will they exercise their right to further probe/question your sincerity?
  4. Will they determine that even a valid religious exemption is an undue financial hardship to the company?
  5. Will they determine that even a valid religious exemption is an undue medical risk to their vaccinated employees?
  6. Will they choose the legal unpaid leave and benefits option already being chosen by other large employers. This choice is mostly made due to the cost of investigating and processing the high number of claims a big company will receive. It also is legal and and is a safe harbor against lawsuits.

Bottom line the whole process is up to the discretion of the employer. They get to pick and choose. Verizon will have no problem reducing manning this year. This process already has a built in excuse as to why they can't backfill the positions. The position is currently occupied by someone on unpaid leave and benefits. How does the management of this company live with themselves? Caring for your employees would look like this: Except all religious exemptions, after all this is also a legal way to handle the government mandate. To sum it all up. Verizon decides if your faith, religion or belief's are acceptable. Keep this in mind the next time they want to discuss inclusion with you, or preach to you about your participation in their mandatory volunteerism. make

The FAQ they put out even states that in some cases, the exemption will be unpaid leave.

@4alg+1dqQhldI nice try. They said in the FAQ they would not begin responding to exemption requests until mid-November.

Wow, they are approving exemptions fast. No questions asked. I just got the two sentence email. I wonder how many of all the people complaining even bothered to apply for an exemption?

Those with religious exceptions will still need a negative test weekly to keep job.

there are only a handful of religions at best that do not endorse vaccination, even Christian Scientist will allow as a religious organization vaccination, but that is not what a religious accommodation is based on - your religious affiliation is secondary to your "sincere" personal belief based on how you interpret your faith and religion as it relates to vaccination - would be very difficult for VZ or anyone for that matter to prove (assuming your accommodation meets religious/vaccination test) a faith based personal religious conviction is false and deny an accommodation.

@1ggw+1dqQhldI I think you better go read those FAQs pal and consult an attorney. They do not have to find a new role for you. You are completely incorrect.

False, an exemption means they have to accommodate your continued employment. They cannot exempt you into an unpaid leave role or that would be an easy discriminatory lawsuit.

p.s. an approved exemption only means they have to accomodate you based on the needs of the business. In many cases, that will be unpaid leave. Once on unpaid leave, you'll only have paid benefit coverage for 60 days. I hope those of you getting exemptions use that time wisely.

Everyone realizes the vaccinated get covid too, right? They get it, carry the same viral load, and can spread it like the unvaccinated. And show less symptoms which makes them more dangerous because they're less likely to be aware they have it. We all know the unvaccinated are no more a danger to the vaccinated then they are to themselves, right? Or is it just me?

Unless you really do practice a religion that doesn’t allow vaccines i suggest you not try this.

Personally, I’d rather be unemployed than lie in the Name of God.
