Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Side gigs

Almost all my colleagues have something on the side. I think a lot of employees have side jobs, (only they don't use their company computer for side jobs).

What will never be clear to me is why do employers feel so threatened by side gigs?

For Verizon it probably means they could have squeezed you even harder, and they didn't.

I recently started door dash before and after work since Verizon thought it would be cute to cut commission and make it 10 times harder to make goal. It sucks because the holidays used to be money making season for us hard working reps...our new commission structure is a joke and leaves us broke and unmotivated.

I think they are talking about running a side gig while on the clock working from home. Not using company materials or hardware just doing two jobs on the clock.

Verizon doesn't care about side gigs. Don't use company time, resources or connects and all good. They will even help you sometimes. Get informed before speak up.

When you speak of side gigs do you mean something like “ DoorDash”? BTW I never felt those delivery or ride service jobs were lucrative. I have a few friends that do those as side gigs and average from 20-25 an hour. Not bad until you factor in fuel and wear and tear then it plummets to like 10 an hour....and that’s with tips. Not a smart gig.
