Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Smart people are leaving Capital One

Don't be one of those people who wait to be laid off before looking for work. You'll never have a better chance to find something new than when you're already employed. There is no urgency to accept something that might be below your standards like you might be tempted if unemployed.

By all means stay if you enjoy 10 months a year of the worthless performance management popularity contest! You too could be the next homecoming queen and/or king. If you cannot win, at least you may earn a place on the homecoming court. If you pick the right clique to join, you may do well. Good luck.

Yup, some of the smartest engineers I know have left or planning to leave soon.
There are lots of reasons, bad management and politics being the primary ones.

They are putting the old guard back in charge - bringing back leadership and architecture teams who were laid off a few years ago.
They are the masters of word salads and creators of documents that no one reads.

The few who are trying to get things done will be eliminated via the performance management hunger games - the Richmond mafia will take over, then a few years later they will get laid off with sizeable severance packages and all will be well.

Peace!

Capital one is not all it's cracked up to be. Every floor I walked on, signs everywhere, "Fortune magazine rates us one of the best places to work". What a load of crock. Every time I looked someone was either quitting or getting canned. It was unnerving. Before I signed up, I read reviews about this place and many were stating the same thing of what I was about to see and experience. They can kiss my _ _ _.
