Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Good Entertainment

With all the negative feedback from current or former XOM employees on this forum (some of which I’m sure are former colleagues over the last 25 years), I decided to read up on some other IOG companies and see how bad we really are.
Not shockingly, same sh— different ticker sign. Being that the nature of these forums is to vent and be negative that is not a surprise either. Mostly people who were let go, retired, or have general malaise and contempt for their coworkers, supervisors or competing employees. Of course this is a breeding ground for negative remarks and ill informed opinions from know-nothing know-it-alls! If you’re on here and still an employee, maybe spend more time doing your actual job, or spend this time searching job boards and updating your LinkedIn with some shiny new works and titles.
I saw lots of changes over my career, the industry faces tough times in the next 20-30 years, so either make a nest egg while you can or look for something else entirely! Moving companies is not the answer! If you think moving will make you happier and more successful, guess what…you are part of the problem, not part of the solution. If you cannot see that, there is little hope for any of us; employees, retired stakeholders or invested patrons.

Busy post - such vitriol.
O&G is in a death spiral and sorry for those committed to it by education or fixed mindsets. I hear Petro Engineering departments need your donations.

Me - I have transferrable skills that don't need dead plant ancestors.

OP is probably just as demented as our manager. She is a Pi-s poor excuse for a human and a manager. Seems every week I hear from other engineers about the bs she pulls and the dh has no friking clue which is not surprising. She steals High priority work above her cl when new managers come in so noone knows that she’s not even supposed to have access to the material. She undermines other sls and plays political games all day. Snooping calendars and looking for opportunities. All In an effort to increase her look good index. She changes spreadsheets that she’s not suppose to or even have access to and all kinds of other underhanded cr-p all to meet her agenda. Management is soo jacked up at least in the gulf. She’s a cancer that has infested the organization and a vindictive, manipulative self serving animal. I have never in my life witnessed such an evil person in my life.Get a life OP, I doubt other companies put up with this type behavior.

@OP It looks like part of the UIT leadership team finally grew a pair of ba--s and made a post! Congratulations Hot Shot Leader!

Not all companies are the same, so stop spreading the lies you and HR tell each other. I've been in E&P, with other companies, and other industries with nothing comparing to the poor leadership I've experienced here. Just look at the ridiculous popularity contest we refer to as our PDS, which reflects little on an employee's value to helping the company meet it's goals. That's why XOM sucks today and the revolving doors are generating as much wind as the @OP with all the attrition.

But let me give you a pat on the back for stepping into the forum and I'm sure it didn't hurt you too bad when your ba--s dropped! Come back soon.

@qex+1d6Fjbov That's exactly what they want EMIT, and soon everyone to be - a programmable tamed dog.

@jbl+1d6Fjbov Yeah, we may see more videos in LinkedIn about the Boston Robotics Spot that costs $75. Some employees may post the videos, other may applaud the tech, and some may ask questions as to what's even the use case for the dog! And the dog and pony show continues like a pyramid scheme.

Does anybody believe that any employee needs to read the comments on this site in order to realize how terrible this company is ? Don’t we live and breath that toxicity every day ?
I can only hope that people like the OP and some others posting here (maybe same person) are payed for their company propaganda. Otherwise they’ve wasted decades working and not understanding anything. What EM has done in the last year and a half has sealed its fate. This is not a down cycle for EM, it’s a rudderless ship sinking. Soon reality is going to grab even the managerial parasitic class - let’s see what they post on LinkedIn then.

All industries have cyclical layoffs. None of them are pleasant. Sorry XOM. If I were running a business that was in business of making money and economic returns for investors, I would also clean house. It is great when there is lots to spread around and everyone gets a piece of the pie. When there is not enough pie for all, the ones at the top get what’s left. Reganomics. Socialism. All of it. All the same. When union factories no longer are profitable because of inflated wages from when times are good, factories shutdown. Some get buy outs, some layoffs, so performance based terminations. This is simple economics and capitalism.

The OP is a liar or a fool. I spent over 3 decades with ExxonMobil. So I saw lots of bo-m and bust cycles. There is no doubt that the company has fundamentally changed; what was once a great company has been driven down by poor leadership. The poisonous environment which they created by weaponizing the assessment system to implement thinly disguised layoffs has destroyed employee morale and shredded trust. This is not the same company I joined many years ago. It has changed dramatically for the worse.

@rne+1d6Fjbov Exactly! But brown nosers and koolaid drinkers like @OP+1d6Fjbov will continue to sing WeAreExxonMobil and would never acknowledge and accept the truth of the matter. Especially in the case of employee treatment and how bad XOM treated employees during the layoffs and PIPs. compared to its peers. Yes, we work in an at will state but even during layoffs and pips the employees should be treated with dignity and respect and neither was done.

Keep brownnosing and hiding truths and by burying under carpet if that makes you feel better and over others.

A lot of the posts and comments here are by activists and clean energy people. Simplest way to destroy a company is to convince all its employees that it’s a terrible place to be.

Dear Mr/Ms Brilliant-While I agree that the overall industry is in a slump the way that XOM chose to deal with the slump in regards to its employees is far worse than any of its IOG competitors is the main issue here. Lying about employee performance to cover up for overstaffing due to poor strategies and investment decisions and PIPs is significantly different approach than other IOG competitors. It tells the employees that we no longer have any integrity left.
