Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Super Toxic

I always wondered how much truth is there in the "Toxic?" thread
Post from TheLayoff.com

Have experienced it first hand I would say it is definitely not toxic, it is super toxic.

The whole system is gamified.

Performance management is a joke. How can you calibrate 40 different employees against each other if they are not in the some role - engineer vs manager vs product manager vs project manager vs architect vs whatever. Also if a team has 6 super performers, how can you force 2/3 of them to the bottom performer category while someone with far less ability and impact gets a raving review.
The feedback mechanism is also based on a buddy system.

There are a lot of things toxic about this company - I'll let others respond.

Who came up with the idea of calibration? Also, given the significant amount of Indians who work there, I’m actually not surprised that such system was implemented. Wherever they go, they make that place toxic.

@Isurvivedthecult - thanks for that insight.
This definitely not a place for "a rising tide lifts all boats" - so everyone is trying to grab attention and sc--w others over. Even the hiring process is pretty nepotistic.
Time to leave this garbage.

I agree. When I landed in this company, I was so happy and proud. Then I really saw and experienced how toxic it was. If a manager doesn't like you, the manager will make up lies on you to get you fired and H/R stands by and not only allows it, but encourages it. It has been, so far, the worst experience of my working career.
I was only there ten months and I don't miss it and don't reccomend it to anyone. Leaving there was the best.

Completely agree. I spent 26 years there. Performance management was the worst thing. Very subjective process. Somebody has to be the fall guy or gal. The system itself creates problems with people who will calibrate against you. It is a dog eat dog world at this company and you are wearing milk bone underwear..... I cannot explain how good it feels to get away from that environment.
