Does anyone know if you opt for “voluntary” layoff if your unemployment is affected? In other words, can unemployment be denied if you take voluntary layoff?

I’n AZ you will not be able to collect unemployment if you voluntary opt out or quit. You can Collect the whole $320 maximum allowed if they lay you off. Unemployment will ask you about severance and you cannot collect unemployment while you are getting severance.
Years ago when I was working at an aircraft company I took a voluntary layoff so I could finish nursing school, and I was still able to get unemployment. It even extended for 2yrs at the time due to the large number of us who were let go. That was in KS…not sure if it varies state to state or not but I’d sure think you’d still get the unemployment.
@4ebw+1ctdI6QW not true about being ineligible for rehire. You’d be eligible for rehire after 1 year. That’s to prevent people from taking the voluntary severance and then applying for and getting a different role shortly afterwards.
Word to the wise. Make them RIF you! Don’t take the voluntary severance. You won’t get unemployment if you voluntarily go and won’t be eligible for rehire!!! Take your chances and you’ll know one way or another in October at which point you’ll get formal 60 day notice if you weren’t selected which should take you through the holidays, then severance and after that you’ll get unemployment if you can’t find anything else.
You don’t get unemployment because you technically quit your job if you go voluntarily
Check with your state unemployment office, all states are different. I was able to collect unemployment and a severance.
If you opt out it will mean you voluntary separated from your job. I will venture to say that would make you not eligible for unemployment but you can apply it doesn’t hurt. The worst would be they say No.
It does vary by state whether you can collect unemployment and severance at the same time, Google it.
In Fl if you take a voluntary layoff you cannot get unemployment
We were told it varies by state.
You can’t get unemployment while you’re getting severance, since that’s considered income
Ask HR. I bet you do not get unemployment
