Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Where are the latest Houston Covid numbers?

They’re now two days late. Anyone know when we can expect them to be posted?

My cynical side says they’re bad and management is figuring out how to “spin” them and justify why we’re still on campus, why masks are no longer required, and why all of the signage about distancing and one-way traffic flows has been removed.

Oh, and the updates no longer include close contacts. My presumption is that there are dozens and dozens, since safeguards have been removed, and management does not want to admit that reversal of these measures was premature and is the root cause of close contacts.

All this as one of the closest hospitals to campus has 90 covid patients in its 50-bed ICU ward, some of whom are fully vaxxed.

I will never again listen to one word this company says about “safety.” Hot garbage.

Management does not want to back track on masks or working from home. The new numbers indicate both should happen. We will see how committed to safety the company really is.

Don’t you think hospitals are wanting to be at or near capacity? They are in the business of selling health care, so they are “selling” as much as they can.

Put off the face lifts and br---t implants, they will all be back later, classify more patients as “covid” and pad the bottom line. It’s just their way of conducting business.

If you ever want to know why something is happening, “Follow the money!”

I’ve had the Chinese virus already and it’s no big deal. Quit allowing yourselves to be controlled by the government and take care of your own health.

In the last 2 years, have you lost weight, started exercising, started eating better, or even spent more time outside getting healthier? Lots of things you can be doing to make having any virus easier on your body.

I have been on many international flights since Covid started. Every 3 hours they announce that the N95 masks have expired, collect the old masks and issue new masks. People on campus seem to wear same masks for weeks.

Wear a mask if you choose, but leave me alone. My body, my choice.

Saw +82 cases for Houston today. However if you go by the total number of cases week to week it is +91. Not sure why the discrepancy.

Why haven’t they sent the communication requiring masks for the next 6 weeks? They sent it to supervisor level Wednesday- I guess a worsening pandemic can’t even speed up simple communications

Company doesn’t want to admit anything especially after they back peddled something. Masks in full effect in Baytown though

N95 masks are effective for longer than 8 hours. This comes from the latest studies published this year from the WHO and CDC. Cite your sources.

Regular masks are effective since covid tends to travel together on top of other larger particles, large enough to be stopped by most masks. Not that you would want to work in an ICU without an n95. Just saying not everyone in every situation needs an n95.

It doesn’t matter who’s in the ICU and what they’re sick with - if it’s over capacity, that affects EVERYONE, covid positive or not. If you or a loved one get in a car accident or have a heart attack right now, do you really think you’re going to get the best possible care?

Also, enough with the “young healthy people will be fine” narrative. My brother-in-law is currently hospitalized with COVID. He’s 33, vaccinated, and fit (marathon runner.)

N95 masks are only effective for 3 hours then must be replaced. EM needs to give 3 masks to each person on campus daily.

I do not see this happening.

Due to the current COVID situation a requirement for everyone to wear masks indoors will be implemented but no announcement yet, hopefully by tomorrow.
