Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Doing the bare minimum

I'm about 8 years in at XOM, and up until the end of last year I was a pretty motivated, hard-working employee. I cared about the quality of my work, and about contributing to the success of my team. I'd spend personal time learning and studying so I could be better at my job, and to prepare myself for future roles I was interested in. But I've hit a point where I just don't give a sh-t anymore. I don't have any of those feelings or do any of those things anymore. I go in, do just enough work to not draw too much attention to myself, and leave as soon as possible... usually earlier. Anyone else feeling the same way? To be honest, I don't think I would care one bit if I got NSI'ed in the near future. I almost welcome the PIL.

I put in all the effort required to stay in the top 92%.

@4kjo Of course they’re incompetent, that’s why they’re supervisors! Peter Principle in action.

If some employees are able to slack and others have to work harder because of that, the supervisors involved are completely incompetent and should be the first thrown out. Since apparently slacking is frequent - as many postings below show - it tells you how well this company is run.

@wvs wtf are you talking about “no jobs for my age (35)”. That is definitely not true based on the many colleagues in that age range that have left for other jobs.

Doing the bare minimum 🤣 Another coward afraid to go somewhere and start again. Hate EM so much then quit and save a person that wants to stay

I won’t slack, because someone else would need to pick up the work …but… I’m torn between either:
1) Ignoring all the broken things, because my suggestions have been disregarded for the um-teenth time …and…
2) Telling management that they are awful and should be PIPed (and subsequently getting my resume polished up.)

I have exactly the same thing, stopped giving a s*** once I reached a certain breaking point and as soon as I did that I started to get more recognition and a top ranking, this company is really a joke. I am actually handing in my resignation today and cannot wait to finally be out of this toxic culture:)

Been doing the bare minimum since I started a few years ago. Regularly take naps on the benches on campus when the weather’s nice, sometimes even during group meetings. Regularly show up at 10 and leave by 3. Been ranked better with every successive year, outstanding last year.

Effort doesn’t count and results don’t matter at EM. The sooner y’all figure that out the better your life will be.

From experience - doing minimum got me into NSI, and I did courses online to get my skills up. No jobs out there for my age (35), only jobs are entry level with my online courses and I am too expensive for those, so no interviews. In hindsight, I should have worked harder and stayed here. Take it for what is - now I am taking PIP and will try to stay here.

I'm doing the same thing and I will continue until they present the PIL option to me in the future. I am doing an MBA and Data analytics program online in the meantime. I might leave before they let me go

Yes I did feel that way and my biggest mistake was not leaving as soon as I did. Bad Managers destroy good people. Don’t hang around if you are feeling like this it is not worth it.
