Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Appears that because I’m a big bad union employee, this stat holiday will not be paid. No problem, but I wonder what my indigenous union brothers think when we have to work that day. All this cr-p about how Enbridge cares and supportive is total bs. Will never believe another thing you people say. Enjoy the stat you non union folks, good for you to get a little back from all the cuts you took. Absolutely ashamed of you Enbridge. Hope you can handle the bad press. But you don’t care, so I guess too bad for me and my brothers.

The union will negotiate for everything they can get. And the company will give them exactly what was negotiated.

Take it up with the union.

Nobody should have had the day off yesterday. All the companies, including mine that has a strong Indigenous program, took time at work to recognize this day and what it truly means. Getting a day off to stay home or do something else diminishes what this day is about. Very few will reflect at home, but if you are at work you will participate and learn.

Same should be true for Remembrance Day.

Most complaining they are not getting it are mainly just complaining they don't get a day off

It's a federal holiday for those employed by the federal government. Provinces can decide if they want to make it a provincial holiday. Ontario has not so it's up to individual employers if they give employees the day off with pay.

When the BC family day holiday came into effect, the union folks got to enjoy it without penalty. The non union folks had to give up Easter Monday holiday if they wanted to take family day off. Just saying.

Why are union staff not recognized for this holiday? If it is federal, then it applies to everyone does it ? Why? Are they not the ones usually on the front lines? Who cares about a collective agreement, have an emergency meeting and put it in the agreement so all staff may recognize. Do the right thing

They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.
It's all for show.

Y'all should suggest that on the next time y'all go into negotiations that they retro pay those days off back or they supplement with lieu days.
Just a suggestion. It would be a kind, respectful and inclusive gesture towards your Indigenous employees and employess of all races.
I hope y'all figure it out!
Best Regards from the Sunny South

Enbridge is anti-union. No difference then the 500$ bonus AL gave to all office staff last year that wasn't seen by the unionized staff.

Join the white hats.......

Shame on all of you for forgetting the reason the 30th is to be remembered and now furthering the division by using it as a topic between union / non -union.

If you really want the day off for the reason the day is meant for, then take the day off to remember those lost.

You union cry-baby. Complain to your union for not being able to predict the future by negotiating a future federal stat holiday no one knew about. You realize the feds announced that holiday on June 24 this year.
Agreed with other poster — the collective agreement applies even when you don’t benefit. Now go and cry that non-union employees get bonuses.

Totally agree this stat came out of nowhere and the union couldn't negotiate to get it but that's not the company's fault. Or do you only want to ignore the collective agreement when it's in your favor?
