Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I just quit XOM and I feel liberated! Who else?

I have not been happier during my time in ExxonMobil and finally on the day of leaving the company, I feel amazing. Who else is with me?

I left a few years ago and I STILL feel amazing about it. Makes me sad to have stumbled upon this site and see that the culture hasn’t changed one bit. I have worked at a few other companies besides EM and can honestly say it was one of the worst corporate environments I have been in. Met some great people and still keep in touch with one mentor but otherwise, I couldn’t be happier that I left, in spite of higher-ups telling me I would regret it. Haha nope, not for one second

Left in ‘08 after 24 years. 5 years with a competitor. Back in ‘13. Found the shade of grass different and better day to day, but constant worrying that I wouldn’t make retirement with competitor. Hope you find better grass where you go, but you’ll have to get out of O&G to do it.

@kfc+1cW9NQD1 That's pretty funny, actually. I kept telling management as they tried to convince me to stay that the way they do things there isn't how the 'real world' works. Different strokes I guess. Enjoy your time at the company, it will do you well to stay there for as long as you can.

Don’t let these negative jealous XOM people demotivate you. I left a while ago and it was the best thing in my life. You will see that there are companies that won’t make you feel you are in a cutthroat environment and going to extreme like competing with your manager (we know who the weak link is in these situations). Changing employers is good and is well seen in the job market. Even if you go back to XOM (I’ll pray this isn’t the case) you will probably be in a much more better situation than those who criticize.

@kfc+1cW9NQD1 not really. Though no corp. Is perfect. Now that I am out of XOM I can say XOM mgmt., culture, and employee treatment is one of the worst. You stay optimistic for a change is that get you thru your time.

Your action is only a temporary relief. Get another job and you will realize the system designed for people to compete against one another. Welcome to real life

Meh, you'll be back complaining, but now from a different company. As they say, the a$$ is not always greener in the other side...
