Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Why are there so many negative posts here, relative to other competitors???

I have just run into this website and reading all the recent posts about 3M and other competitors including Dow, DuPont etc.

Man, I gotta say that it is kind of scary as a person looking for employment in one of these top-level materials science companies (I am finishing up my PhD in materials science now). A lot of people complain about the CEO and the consequences of massive layoffs and Advance 3M operating models.. Even in Glassdoor or Indeed, I can barely find any positive reviews about 3M that have been posted within 3 years.

Another things I am also very concerned about is how liberal and political MN is becoming.. Also, I have got an impression that lately 3M seems to favor under-represented groups, regardless of their qualifications, over other highly qualified groups... , which some of you commented on in other posts...

I have also seen several friends of mine working for 3M having quitted, after working only for several years. Some of you commented on high attrition rates for young folks..

I am currently doing a pros and cons list of each company. 3M.. There are quite a bit of red flags. Should I be worried?

Simple reason is dismal prospects for a technical person ( severely limited scope for career enhancement plus yearly layoffs, 2019, 2020, 2021, and in all probability 2022 as well !)

The reason why there are so many negative posts is that the company is on a steep downhill that offers zero to little growth prospects for a technical person.

Yes, there is some ranting and there are some posts from disgruntled ex employees on this site, but there is no doubt that many employees are concerened about the future of the company, and hence mostly negative posts. Also, it is not just this site, there is a majority of negative posts in sites such as Glassdoor and Indeed.

If you are a fresh PhD, looking forward to an exciting career and growth prospects in your own area of specialization, then this is not the place to be, unless you want to be in management, where promotion and career growth is pretty much guaranteed and only skill required is sychophancy and "toe the line" attitude.
