Why is Humana spending $25 million dollars on housing while laying off thousands of nurse employees? Is it a health company or landlord?

3wws+1cLy0BWV I disagree with you. It doesn’t appear to be sniping at nurses. It appeared to be a comment in regard to the direction not being nurse driven anymore. They acknowledged the situation sucks, but you really have no right telling someone they should be ashamed of themselves for their perception or thoughts. The poster was trying to point out another view, and with the changes, that the nurse role isn’t as needed. How is that shameful?
Used to be insurance covered healthcare. So sad for employees who will be let go. When do layoffs happen? Is Humana stopping nurse support for members?
It's not just nurses being laid off, and not just HAH. Humana has done rif before and offered options to leave. They have not, to my knowledge, necessarily made everyone reapply and go through an interview process. Especially those who were part of the pilot program for the new model. That seems extreme but I can see why if the numbers impacted are really high.
Seriously?
New socialist welfare state and Humana wants a piece of the action! $$$$$$$
Does anyone know the number of nurses they are laying off? Several I know have chosen the opt out option. I just wish we would have a better idea of what is going on before the end of October.
I don’t think the below poster was sniping at coworkers, they were just pointing out it is the direction Humana is going in, and it’s not going to be as nurse driven telephonically, but in the home. And to say it’s “horrible “, the decision Humana made is kind of misplaced….the layoff is cr---y, what we are facing is scary, but what Humana is doing isn’t horrible, and to say Humana is becoming a landlord instead of a health company is missing the point of what the direction is and why.
Ashamed? Sniping at nurses? I think you misunderstood. The RIF sucks, and people have bills, but if their job is being made obsolete, that isn’t what it seems the other posters were saying…I took it to mean it’s horrible that Humana is going in this direction and laying off nurses. If I misunderstood, I am sorry. We are all in the same boat, but to say Humana is keeping less nurses, horrible…and is it a health company or landlord, you may be able to see my confusion. I’m not sniping at nurses or coworkers, just saying that roles aren’t needed due to a business decision, and being angry at Humana and thinking it’s horrible what they are doing, when they’re trying to serve members, which doesn’t include the current staffing levels? We have to be prepared, and update our resumes, but be aware health care isn’t like what it was 5 years ago. I hope we all get absorbed into other programs, but the reality is, we won’t.
I may agree with some of these comments. Humana is a Business and it is going in a new direction but it seems you have forgotten one point. Those people you are telling to get other jobs... They have rent and mortgage to pay each month, they have to go to the store and deal with inflation, they have the expense of providing insurance for their families. This all seems like an underhanded way of redistributing wealth. But they are not going after the rich, they are coming after you... You need to get some priorities right, before long these people you seem happy to see out of work, will be queued up holding their hands out for Humana pass some of the crumbs to them. These are your Coworkers and you are sniping because they are nurses. You should be ashamed,
Maybe you can transfer to the housing program from the role you’re currently in? Humana said it was going to be focused on SDOH….housing fits under that…so it’s not nurse driven anymore….that’s so horrible? Let’s hear it for the other teammates the CMs tend to forget….go, social workers!! That’s not a horrible thing….Humana saying they were going to focus on in home services, and SDOH….and they bought Kindred and are now doing this….keeping less nurses? Horrible? The model doesn’t include as many nurses…how is this horrible? Go to a job that is focused on nursing. I agree with the below poster, I think it’s great the programs aren’t going to be focused as much on nursing, but what the members are really saying they need help with.
The kindred people do at home work, which isn’t taking any of our nursing roles. I don’t understand why people are saying it’s horrible or criticism of the layoff, if this is a business decision and new model they are going to….the RIF isn’t personal, why is it horrible Humana is going in a new direction to meet needs of people? Because your job may be impacted? It sucks, but it’s the business model and some roles aren’t needed….so they are serving their preferred population, even if it’s less members to deliver more. How is that horrible? There are other insurance companies for members to choose from….people will get served. The telephonic model that worked so well years ago is obsolete, and people want more in home services? This is horrible that Humana is meeting the need? Or horrible that you may be impacted and are blaming Humana for a business decision that you obviously don’t see the benefits of? Get over yourself. Polish off your resume and realize that health care isn’t what it was. I think Humana bringing all these options to people in certain areas and programs and services is amazing….that could be your grandparents who benefiting from the array of linkages. Safe at home. So, telephonic doesn’t cut it anymore. How is that horrible?
With the acquisition of Kindred they have another 50,000 employees. A lot of nurses are included in those employees. They have been slowly dissolving the telephonic management program. This is no surprise
How do we know it’s thousands of nurses being laid off? Has anyone been told a number?
They did say they are going from an insurance company that helps to a helping company that does insurance…or something like that….if they’re going into so much in home things, like hospital in the home, and they bought kindred, there really is no model for what they have been doing. Disgusting? No. The company evolving? Yes. The RIF? Sucks. It would be great if everyone who is impacted could be absorbed in roles in the new direction
Humana is cutting the number of members to offer support in 2022. So they are keeping less nurses. Horrible.
