Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Nowhere to go but UP

I see so many people posting about their life AFTER Verizon. This job is super easy for the amount of money we make but it’s not sustainable.

My question is…
What kind of career fields have you guys transitioned into or thought about going to with the set of skills we’ve attained from years at Verizon? I’ve been with the company almost 9 years and have NO idea where to go.

The amount of resentment I have for Verizon is building and I plan on leaving this sinking ship soon.

SOS homies

IT is common to move into. All I needed was a few compTIA certifications and I'm already making more than I did at Verizon. Super happy with where life took me. I would recommend applying to jobs like crazy within Verizon as 2 things can happen:

1) you'll get the job (yay!)
2) you won't get the job but will get feedback on the interview (you'll find you may have to put in a couple hundred apps. This may seem like a lot, but if you put in 2 per day it really isn't a lot at all)

Once you get enough feedback on enough interviews and on your resume, you'll start being able to land jobs you'd never thought you'd get, both within Verizon and outside of Verizon.

Hope this helps

Hopefully in the amount of time you have been with Verizon, you got out of retail. Retail is fine if you want that life but seriously, you will be pigeonholed into that type of role. I have been with Verizon for 10 years. I have been Analyst, went back to sales in B2B, then Consultant, Product Specialist, Engineer Support, then Manager, and now PM. I know people that started out in retail, went to B2B, got into MSA or technical sales and left for tech and got 25k raise. I know people that left B2B and became Sr. Act Mgrs in other companies. B2B is very valuable experience. I hear people hate it here, but been in retail for 5, 10, 15 years and not in management either, just waiting for a package. While they are waiting, time is just slipping away. You can’t get back the years of misery and waiting. The silliest thing to do is wait year after year to be severance. You can’t get that time back.

Can't wait until all the merchandising is done incorrectly and left half finished in every store... doubt anyone will put forth much effort... oh the alarm won't set on this device and the display is wrong? Oh well just leave it there maybe it'll get stolen, who cares, not my problem.

It's the content of the job that is a problem and even worth taking a pay cut for. Hats worn in a day = Salesman, merchandiser, inventory operations specialist, software alpha tester, store opener, store closer, business sales, credit card slinger, insurance salesman, Business cold caller and meat shield for a terrible company? I mean either I'm worth a lot more or I could do even less for the sake of sanity.

Yeah that's someone from employee relations replying. No it's not sustainable for mental health. You can make as much money at Target or Best Buy now. Any tech company will pay you more to do sales and a lot of their benefits are better than Verizon's. They aren't the end all be all anymore.

Get out. There is only down from here. If your store is not high volume it's only a matter of time.

The HR troll bellow obviously doesn't work in sales.

I’m confused by the OP’s post. How is the job not sustainable? I have been with the company for 8 years now and will end up making about 65K this year as a rep. The benefits are great including 6 weeks vacation pay if you factor in the personal time. In regard to lower commission I get it but in my particular situation I only averaged at risk with the old comp plain. The job is cake easy but can be frustrating at times but what job doesn’t have its up and downs? The job is 100% sustainable which could eventually change but not for a long time.
