WFH future..............

It sure would be nice if we could WFH and live in a different town. I am about tired of this heat from May-Sept. Thinking out of the box I wonder if HR could come up with regional salaries that are adjusted to your location. It might be a way to save on salaries for those that want to live outside of Houston and even a few states away. Cap out at Houston salaries, and then work down from there. If you were to live in a higher salary market than Houston then that would be on you. Maybe reduce the salary for WFH as well based on commutes, etc. There has to be a way to make it work for those that want to be in the office and those that want to live somewhere else. I would actually take a pay cut to get out of here.

How is this for thought. Don’t come to Houston or Texas in the first place so you can’t get trapped here during retirement. The people are nice and there are no state taxes. These are the only two things this place has going for itself. But it could be worse so enjoy the positive parts of your life and ignore the fact you choose to live here.

People don't move to Houston for the culture, climate, or geography. They move to Houston for the Benjamins.

Pro tip: work smart, invest smarter, and in 30 years you'll be able to live anywhere and do whatever you enjoy. Nothing beats a well-planned retirement.

This is a great idea. H town sucks. It is hot here and there really aren’t any quality outdoor activities here to speak of. There aren’t any mountains, decent rivers or natural lakes. Even the fishing is inferior both in the fresh water and in the Gulf of Mexico. On top of that you cannot even gamble here unless you count that sad excuse of a race track that Houston couldn’t even support.

Good recommendation Anon. Walmart is a step up for most at Oxy. They also don’t have mass workplace fatalities or huge environmental disasters for their track record that their employees are proud of either.

Good news... Walmart employs nearly 1.6 million people at more than 5,000 stores and clubs nationwide. Also, the starting salary will increase to $12 per hour at the end of the month.

Go for it tiger!

Great idea but this is probably too much to ask from this company and this industry. I will be very grateful as long as they can allow us to work from home because of Covid. Will be happily surprised but I cannot see your idea happening with Oxy.
