Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

OneTen - WF New Hiring Initiative

Straight from the article: "OneTen is committed to upskilling, hiring and promoting over the next 10 years, one million Black individuals who do not yet have a four-year degree with a goal of placing more Black people into family-sustaining career tracks."

How is this not reverse discrimination for every other group?
What happened to "hire the best available candidate".
Why does there have to be anything describing any race as a target initiative - that in itself is the definition of discrimination.

51% of the population is women and there should be equal representation in all levels of the company but the cultures here and overseas are against women being treated equally

Wow, Wells Fargo employees on this board got some racist tendencies.
I am shocked.
The layoff board is where the best and brightest of WF get together, I thought.

Funny I dont remember all this uproar when they were all white departments or when hiring managers wasn't non-whites because they can. All of the sudden now its reverse discrimination...Give me a break!

Wow and they still keep ignoring the fact that only 30% of management are women. I'm pretty sure sexism is a bigger issue.

If you do this, or that, on the basis of color (uhm, race), it is discrimination against the other side, or the other color(s). In other words, it is racist. Period. Doesn't matter what group or board or small or large segment of society or business does it.

What are they going to do with 1MM of employees??? As far as I know. WF is trying to cut number of US employees and subsidize India and Philippines. 👌

Just to be clear, this isn't reverse discrimination. It's discrimination, period. Discrimination doesn't mean only white vs black or man vs woman.

I think you mean the opposite of what you typed. Black people can hire black people all they want. If a white person interviews people they must be monitored by a "diverse panel" to make sure there's minimal risk of the white guy being hired...more qualified or not. If a white male person hires a white male person it very much is a problem (in the company's eyes). Anyone else can hire anyone else, so long as they aren't white/male of course, because racist reasons.

In any of the cases, if skin color or you're just like me, was the reason for hiring, then no it's not ok. BUT, that is exactly what we are now being told to do....but for Black only.
DEFINITELY NOT ok.

I am proud of the fact that I have been a hiring manager for over 20 years and I have never let race or s-x or any other attribute such as these impact my decisions. I have hired individuals from all walks of life and never once let that enter my decision process. So now I am being told that MUST enter my decision process. Skin color is the top qualification. You have got to be kidding!!!
You are actually forcing racist thoughts where there were none before. This will be great I am sure.
Q) So how many years of experience do you have.
A) My whole life- I was born black.
Oh.....You're hired.

So if bl---s hire bl---s and g-ys hire g-ys and women hire women, that's an issue, but if whites hire whites, it is not?

This is how they will justify not hiring more qualified people. For decades they've said "you hire the most qualified person, but if they have equal qualifications..."

Now they've dropped the charade. Under this plan, some person with no applicable skills or education, but the "right" skin color, will get the job over a person with with real world experience and a degree, but who happens to be the "wrong" skin color. They don't even try to hide the racism anymore. It's full on and out in the open.
