Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

PSE’s Trimmed

We lost our PSE this week due to “underperformance” and not enough lead generation. This happened in several stores in the market. The positions were removed totally and there is a “market PSE” to call on the customers in those markets. More job elimination by corporate, one piece at a time.

Small companies like unique are double or triple the price on windows. We raise the selling price on windows by ten percent and add some to the labor price given in the home to ensure we meet margin minimums and get paid. Corporate finds out and calls the customer to give a refund. We get written up as PSE and lose the commissions on the sale. Corporate gives a refund and loses nothing net because they pick our pocket for it. Then they feel like great human beings, PSE feels taken advantage of, and customer has no idea what to think. All because of a systematic problem that Lowe’s created.

Was speaking to the PSE at our store the other day. He is being directed to pick up the PSE responsibilities of another store that is conservatively a 45-60 minute drive (one way) from our store. He was already covering the PSE responsibilities for 2 stores, this change makes it 3 stores total. Classic Lowe's at its finest, eliminate a position in one area and transfer that workload to other employees that remain.

All positions in the stores are sales tiered, meaning you get positions and hours to run the store based on store sales projections. Don’t meet those projections, then positions and hours go away. All they are doing is now making the PSE positions subject to this also.

I would like to feel bad for the PSEs, but after Lowes marks up the contractor labor, the project price is always much higher than nearly all contractors. PSE projects target two kinds of customers, those who are struggling a little financially and need the insanely priced credit to get the job done, and those who are cognitively impaired through dementia, Alzheimer's, or other reasons. I was friends with our PSE before I quit last year. He would tell me that more often than not he felt uncomfortable taking money from people he knew were not in a place to really know what they were signing up for, but it never bothered him enough to quit. The other customer type, well let's be real, after using up to 29% interest rate loans to get their home repaired, things are probably not going to get better for them financially. The whole PSE system is extremely predatory, and if you are involved with the program in any way, it really is time for some serious introspection.

Soon it will be just part time CSA's in all stores. So sad to see a company go down the tubes so quick.

They need to eliminate all area/market positions except market director and HR.

While I do agree that some areas do not perform well, I will say that running a sales program/team without sales leaders and proper management will create a bad result.

Most new pses get lost because the program, paperwork, methods are crazy. Mix that with management that only has retail experience and yea..

This company is depending on the PSE program to generate margins. Several of the PSE categories have been discontinued by THD years ago. There is a lot of pressure on the PSE, more so with no install office, this makes this role very pressurizing. Adding, to this installer issues, and centralized IST, I cannot see this going on for very long. Eventually, customers will get tired of dealing with all the mess. I’m gone!
