Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

SM layoffs soon?

All SMs lost ability to make schedules and can only be done by a GM now. SERIOUS RED FLAG for all SMs.

Godspeed fellow SMs

Layoffs happen quarterly in Verizon. They happen all the time. Mass layoffs happen maybe once a year. Instead of continuing to hate on your coworkers, find another job.

This makes me laugh.
For one, this isn’t true.
Secondly, this board has been wrong about ASM (Formerly SMs) layoffs for years.

Verizon will put a hiring freeze on the position to ween off ASMs when they need to. They do it every year just about around Xmas and then rehire in March. Or, a whole lot of “Acting” rolls are handed out nothing is backfilled.

Also…

Part time was a colossal fail that set recruiting back over a year. It will take districts 6 months at minimum to get stores back to optimum levels and that’s without people leaving through promotion or leaving the business.

If anything, this proved how strong the ASMs are. If your store has joke ASMs then that’s on your GM and store culture.

VZW works to change at a snails pace. I dont think much will change in the near future regarding them closing the corporate locations and removing the SMs. I think the position of SM should have a job description change were the Asst managers have more productive criteria to focus on during their shifts. Like helping close deals thus helping with survey scores.

"If they fix the systems". What you have today is the result of 20+ years of improvements to the systems. You ain't going nowhere.

Oh my you have to process orders because of staffing You don't take calls the gm does even at home on their days off. The reps put out the merchandise you just stare too see if everyone is helping to put out, in between customers we're processing in store pickups, also the reps are changing signage. This what happens in our store and the culture dictates that a majority of stores work like this. Most escalation the reps handle it, if you have to get involved you become upset and admonish the reps that hand the problem off too you. I could go on and on about the privileged culture of Store Assistant Managers. Also, the manipulation of time sheets when the GM is off they leave at 2 pm after arriving at 930am ,how are you making up the 4 hours of your shift,I doubt you're putting in UIA time because you don't have that many hours in a year, the reps are tired of the "I'm an Sm" stories on this website, I'm sure there are a handful of well intentioned Sms,but the others are more prevalent than not.

I am an SM… now known as an Assistant Manager. All I do is put tickets in due to failed orders, clean the store, run numbers, take calls from upper management, process transactions since we are short staffed, update merchandising, and calm Karen down. If they fix the systems, I know I’m no longer needed. I feel bad for the reps that will have to say there is no manager working today. At this point we are just glorified reps that are expected to do make miracles happen.

Why are these stores still around again? I don't get it...

If you look around, even inside of corporate, the organization is coming more flat. There are less and less ADs and EDs. More roles are STI unless it is a direct sales role. There are now a bunch of managers rolling into a super manager into a Director with a bunch of super managers. They might pay a little in responsibility, but it will out weight additional salary of a leader.

Gm has to give approval. Kinda like how they took SAP access away and then gave it back. Yes the plan was to absorb SM roles with a step down severance package but that is obviously delayed due to staffing. SMs are needed more then ever with the current talent that is on boarding. Recruiter friend was making jokes about the applicants.

Maybe your SMs are jackasses. It still works.

No doubt Verizon had something planned for an SM reduction but that will obviously be delayed. Staffing issues will only get worse and stores will have to succumb to shorter hours with one shift and possibly close on Sundays.

Do you work in retail. We barely have enough bodies to keep the doors open most days. These new hire can't show up or do sh-t. It's all hands on deck ain't no one going anywhere for a while.
