Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

Return to Office

It is ridiculous that a health carrier is mandating a return to the office. We will have been working and doing our job from home for 18 months but come September it is sitting in a cubicle with the non-stop interruptions that come from working in that environment.
(all because the Directors and above that are in the office already don't like being there without us minions to nitpick over)

RTO is quite simply about preserving the culture the board believes is their idea of culture and financial to stimulate the economy. The board decided to do this rto and all leaders are simply carrying it out as puppets. They don’t want transparency due to potential lawsuits. They don’t care if there are more outbreaks because they will get to try this experiment and see how it goes. It’s about money but people even if to e deaf and at the risk of losing lives. They’ve looked at all kinds of factors. There have already been outbreaks internally.

You realize they didn't have to send us home from the beginning. They could have made us all stay in the office. There are people who stayed in the office this entire time. Who knows how many of us would have contracted the virus then. So you got use to no noise, buy some noise cancelling headphones then. You can get reimbursed up to $300 on your Wellness rewards. If you talk on the phone, we'll what do you think others think of how loud you might possibly be. There are so many positives and negatives in everyone's mind. Just be thankfully you have a job.

To the question about WFH. If you work for HCSC you should already know what your flex schedule is like or whether you will be a telecommuter. Many people will have a little bit more working from home than they did previously.

Are you allowed to WFH at all or will it be 100 percent in office?

The company doesn’t have to give you a valid reason to return. It’s called employment at will. This employer can ask you to return to your office at any time.

For the record I have employees and if I had my way they could work anywhere. Not all supervisors and leaders want to pick on their people in person. Not all of us are insecure and feel like our employees have to be back in the office. I do not ever expect employees to sugarcoat how they feel or
To lie to me and tell me the company is great if they don’t believe it to be true. I will tell them the same thing I tell my own self, tho. We do not get to decide. These are the rules of the place where we willingly came to work. If we do not like it we should start looking elsewhere. I already have. I’m looking elsewhere. But I respect my employees and always will. I know they can do their jobs just as well from home. They have already shown they can. They are very productive.

If you do not want to return to normal business as it was before March 2020, find a new position at a company that has a complete work from home. I believe it is unrealistic to expect an emergency accommodation to become the new operating model.

I don’t understand why some people here are unhappy about some of us here who are unhappy with HCSC. If you are happy with the company why are your lurking here of all places and wasting your time ? Are you from HR?

To all those complaining about working in the office. Most of you knew that requirement when you were hired before March 2020. Take ownership of your situation and find an employer that allow full time work from home is going into the office is intolerable.

The reason they want people back in the office is simple. They understand that a not insignificant portion of their workforce is disgruntled. They want to get those people back in office, back to a face-to-face environment where some random executive they've never met can hold town hall meetings to get them all pumped up about how blessed they are to work for HCSC. Of course, with the not-so-subtle undertones that they should be working as hard as humanely possible to service our members if they want to stay blessed. "Are you an exempt employee? Aren't you putting in 60 hours a week? I do, but I mean....I guess I just love making a difference in people's lives." You know the kind of nonsense they spew. The kind of cr-p anyone on a Web Ex will just roll their eyes at, but in person, feel the need to smile and nod for fear of reprisal. After all, such amazing opportunities don't come up often, do they?

I work for another Blue Plan & it’s okay to work from anywhere. If you want to go in , fine. As long as you get your job done is all we care about.

100% agree. I have yet to be given a valid reason for return to office. Our "leaders" are saying that some people miss the opportunity to collaborate with their teammates in person. Ok, then give people the choice as to whether THEY want to return or not. They are not giving us a choice because this is not true. It isn't complicated, if you want a happy workforce give people a choice as to whether or not they return.
