Far from ideal

I totally agree with someone who mentioned that many at Oxy not only desire ideal working conditions but think they deserve them. I wouldn’t get much involved in whether they really deserve them or not, nor do I want to say that Oxy doesn’t have a lot of flaws, but I wonder how far is Oxy from such ideal working conditions that you want?

Useless employees should have been given their walking papers the first week that people came back to work. Why this isn’t happening is anyone’s guess.

Getting rid of do-nothing middle managers and the increasing number of silos would probably help.

So if you take salary and put it on the shelf, because we all want a big salary, here’s what I think ideal means or should mean. The previous poster who suggested it is generational is correct. During the first third of your career, the ideal job should be one that exposes you to areas where you can grow and increase your skills. During the second third of your career, employees want to use the skills they have developed and advance into higher positions of authority. Employees in the last third want to feel like they are making decisions that impact the direction of their company or industry. Those are my thoughts. Others may look at it a little differently.

Ideal is being defined by the generations. The latest generation wants maximum flexibility in a job they enjoy with a high rate of pay. Good luck to them if they can find this ideal. Several generations back we were just focused on having a job that you could enjoy that paid a decent wage to support your family.

Pretty ideal to go in the office 3 days a week. Not all in the industry are offering this schedule, so I feel pretty lucky to get this schedule.
